Notes from Mrs Hulonce…
2020 Foundation Transition-
Next Monday is our second Foundation 2020
transition session. We enjoyed an excellent
session on Monday with Mrs Munday and Miss
Mason in the Foundation Wonder Room.
Students will come up to school at 2pm and
complete the afternoon. They will also meet
their Grade 6 buddies next Monday! Parents are
welcome to spend some time in the
Conference Room with Mrs Hulonce and Miss
Mee to learn more about Bundarra and our
various programs.
On Monday 2nd December, we will be joined in
the parent session by our team of DET Support
Staff- Mrs Caroline Shepard, Mrs Robyn Bowen
and Ms Bronwyn Keillor. These lovely ladies
support students, families and staff to help our
students be the best they can be. We hope as
many Foundation 2020 parents as possible can
attend this important session at 2pm.
2020 Grade 1-6 Transition-
All other year levels will have their transition
sessions starting on Tuesday 10th December.
Students will meet their new class teachers and
classmates during the afternoon session,
learning more about what 2020 will entail.
Exciting times!
Grade 6 students will spend the day at their
chosen secondary school, which will give them
a taste of what their next years of schooling will
be like. We hope this day goes well and you are
full of excitement and positivity entering the
next stage of your educational journey.

Goal Setting & Self Talk
Goal setting is very important for us to
grow. It helps us focus. Goals shape our
dreams. Goals give us focus on what we
need to do to achieve what we want. In
order to reach our goals, we must
become better. Goal setting helps with
this by giving long-term vision in our lives.
We need powerful, long-term goals to
help us get past those short-term
challenges.
What goals do we have as a
family?
Do we have things we are aiming
to achieve?
Are we all doing what we need
to, to support the family goals?
Alongside goal setting, is self talk. This is
the voice inside our heads which
impacts who you are and how you live
your life. With practice you can learn to
be a positive friend to yourself and be
confident even when life is challenging.

What positive self-talk do
we use in our family?
Can we make this more
positive?
What words can we leave
behind?
What could we replace
the negative talk with?

When Things Go Wrong At School
By Michael Grouse
Despite best teaching practice things do go wrong at school. Most kids
experience learning difficulties from time to time. The developmental nature of
childhood means that there will always be some turbulence, particularly around
key transition ages, such as the start of adolescence.
Your approach as a parent when your child has difficulty at school makes huge
difference to their resilience, and their future relationships with teachers and peers.
Here’s a five point checklist to help you stay focused and be effective if your child
experiences difficulty at school.
1. Stay calm and rational Don’t get on the phone straight-away when things go
wrong! It’s natural to protect, or defend your children, particularly when you think
that they’ve come in for some unfair or poor treatment. But acting when you are
full of emotion is inappropriate! Take your time to think through how you might
assist your child. Take a few deep breaths and calm down......
2. Get the all facts Once you’ve calmed down, and then get the facts about the
situation. Kids are faulty observers and often only see one side of a story when
there’s a problem with a teacher or a fellow student. Ask good questions to help
the full story emerge.
3. Go through the right channels Approach the school calmly, going through the
school office, or directly to your child’s teacher if that is the usual protocol. If you
have already established a relationship with the teacher concerned, then it’s
often easier to approach them directly.
4. Look for solutions rather than blame State the problem as you see it and view
your child’s teacher as an ally, not a foe. “I’m really worried about Jeremy. He’s
been acting strangely lately and I need some help” is the type of approach that
will elicit a helpful response. Talk about your concerns and keep the discussion
focused firmly on what’s best for your child. Listen to your teacher’s viewpoint,
valuing a different perspective.
5. Stay in touch Be realistic with your expectations, remembering that some
problems can’t be solved to your satisfaction, nor will they be resolved straight
away. Be prepared to work alongside your child’s teacher over the long-term,
which means you need to keep communicating with each other.
