Manager of Finance

City and County of Denver

201 W. Colfax Ave, Dept 1009, MC 405

Denver, CO 80202

As a Home Rule City, the City and County of Denver administers and collects its own sales/use tax

separately from the State of Colorado.

Special Event Vendors will NOT receive an actual paper special event sales tax license.

The Tax Compliance Section of the Denver Department of Finance registers special event vendors

on their tax system and assigns an account reporting number. A vendor’s canceled check, for the

license fee, is their proof of payment and application.

A tax license assigns you the right and the obligation to collect taxes for the City of Denver. Taxes

collected for the City of Denver are monies held in trust by you. It is your responsibility to

adequately account for and remit these funds. A TAX RETURN is required to be filed after the

event. The due date is the 20th of the month following the vent. If not remitted by the due date,

there is a penalty of 15% of the tax amount, or $25, whichever is greater, plus interest of 1% per

month. A TAX LICENSE IS NOT a license to do business.

Sales Tax: A SALES TAX LICENSE is required if you are making retail sales. The license authorizes

collection of sales tax along with any use tax owed. The license fee is $5.00 per special event. If

you have a current regular Denver Sales Tax License, no additional license fee is required.

The shipping labels, money saving tips, and shipping deadlines are included in the Brede Exhibitor Packet. Brede will receive and manage the freight at the warehouse and on show site. Material handling fees are paid to Brede for these material handling services, and are separate from and independent of freight transportation charges, which are paid to a freight carrier such as YRC, ABF, FedEx, or any other carrier of the exhibitor’s choosing. Exhibitors are responsible for securing a carrier of their choosing and arranging freight transportation to and from the event, and all associated transportation fees.

All exhibit displays should be designed and erected in a manner that will withstand normal contact or vibration caused by neighboring exhibitors, hall laborers, or installation/dismantling equipment, such as fork lifts. Displays should also be able to withstand moderate wind effects that may occur in the exhibit hall when freight doors are open. Exhibitors should ensure that

any display fixtures such as tables, racks, or shelves are designed and installed properly to support the product or marketing

materials to be displayed.

Please stay inside your exhibit space which is taped off by black tape. This is the space that you have paid for and expanding outside of the taped off areas affects traffic flow. Aisles have been planned by Show Management to be a specific size and Exhibitors expanding outside of their space affects this. If you feel like your exhibit space is not the correct size and is off by a couple feet, please let the Brede staff at the Brede booth know ASAP. Below are good and bad examples of staying within the black tape on the floor.

Good Example: Both of the above Exhibitors have stayed within the black tape. (Thank you!)

Bad Example: Both of the Exhibitors to the left have expanded outside of the black tape creating tripping hazards or an inconsistent flow of traffic on the show floor. The Exhibitor on the far left also has a ladder out which is not allowed either.

Setup yourself up for success at Denver Pop Culture Con - it's all in the setup and presentation! If a table is inviting and well thought-out, attendees will be more likely to approach, look at your work, buy your books or prints, or even commission original work. Join expert guest authors Lisa Manifold (Heart Of The Goblin King, Tales from the Veil) and Corinne O’Flynn (The Aumahnee Prophecy, Ghosts of Witches Past) as they walk you through everything from the most effective way to pitch your application and get it approved, to setup at the con itself, and even how to be friendly and inviting in order to maximize interaction and make new fans! Lisa and Corinne focus on Author's setup at con - including the most effective displays if you are sharing a table - but these lessons apply equally well to artists and comic creators setting up (or applying for) Artist Valley.

Our general services contractor, Brede, offers a cart service for Exhibitors with tables*. By paying for this service, the union will deliver your items to your exhibit space. Please email [email protected] to purchase this optional service. * This does not apply for booths as drayage is covered by DPCC.

• Interested in exhibiting at DPCC the following year? Take a photo of your current table or booth display to use for your next year’s application. Some items we check for when reviewing applications: current portfolio/images of product or artwork, completion of tax related items for the city and state from previous years (if applicable), exhibitor history (if applicable), and completion of the actual application and that everything if filled out.

• Cosplayers will be given a wristband and the prop will be marked daily to indicate completion of this.

• If you purchase a prop at the show the vendor must provide you with a wrist band and the prop must be peace-bonded. It is your responsibility to request this if not automatically provided; should you be observed without the wrist band and/or the weapon peace-bonded, you will be required to immediately remove it from the premises.

• You may be re-checked at any time. • Every time you leave and re-enter the Colorado Convention Center your prop will also need to

The Colorado Convention Center is about 31 miles or a 40 min car drive from the Denver International Airport (DIA).

Public Transportation: There are several options of public transportation to use getting to and around Denver. Denver utilizes both public buses and light rail systems. In the center of Denver there is a free bus aka “The MallRide” that is incredibly helpful to get around the city and is close to hotels, the convention center, many restaurants, and attractions. Getting downtown from DIA: Please always refer to Google Maps for the most accurate method of transportation to avoid delays. 1a.) Take the Light Rail – A Line to Union Station. Union Station is in the center of downtown Denver. From Union Station you can take the Free MallRide* to the CCC and many hotels. 1.b) Instead of taking the A Line to Union Station, you can also transfer to other trains that go throughout Denver. 2) Utilize a ride share system like Lyft or Uber. The pickup location for Lyft/Uber is located on Level 5 / Island 5 at the airport. Passengers who have requested rides through the Lyft and Uber apps will exit the terminal through doors 506-510 (west side) and 507-511 (east side) on Level 5 near baggage claim and proceed to Island 5 for pickup.

https://www.denver.org/about-denver/denver-resources/high-altitude-tips/

Denver is 5280 feet above sea level. While altitude sickness is much more common at higher altitudes like in the Rocky Mountains, please consider the below tips as

everyone experiences altitude change differently.

Please drink lots of water and wear sunscreen and lip balm!

DRINK WATER Before your trip to Denver, and while you are here, drinking plenty of water is the number one way to help your body adjust easily to our higher altitude. The low humidity in Colorado keeps the air dry, like the desert, so you need about twice as much water here as you would drink at home. MONITOR YOUR ALCOHOL INTAKE In Denver's rarified air, golf balls go ten percent farther... and so do cocktails. Alcoholic drinks pack more of a wallop than at sea level. It is recommended that you go easy on the alcohol in the mountains and in Denver, as its effects will feel stronger here. EAT FOODS HIGH IN POTASSIUM Foods such as broccoli, bananas, avocado, cantaloupe, celery, greens, bran, chocolate, granola, dates, dried fruit, potatoes and tomatoes will help you replenish electrolytes by balancing salt intake. WATCH YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY The effects of exercise are more intense here. If you normally run 10 miles a day at home, you might try 6 miles in Denver. PACK FOR SUN With less water vapor in the air at this altitude, the sky really is bluer in Colorado. But there's 25 percent less protection from the sun, so sunscreen is a must. Denver receives over 300 days of sunshine each year (more than San Diego or Miami). Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm... even in winter. DRESS IN LAYERS Two days before your trip to Denver, check the weather and use this information to pack appropriately. Because the sun is especially powerful in Denver, it can feel much warmer than the actual temperature during the daytime, but then become very chilly after sundown, particularly in the Spring and Fall. It is best to layer your clothing.
