THE MICHELANGELO PROJECT SUMMER ART BOOT CAMPSFOR TEENS AND ADULTS

The Michelangelo Project Summer Art Boot Camps are intensive art workshops for teens and adults motivated to learn and advance their skills in realistic drawing and oil painting. Designed for artists of all levels, each week-long workshop focuses on skills, tips and tricks to best support an artist’s success working first in graphite from the live model, and then in oil paint from a still life. Regular drawing and painting demos and lectures will be presented, and individual critiques will be given to each artist. Spaces are limited. Individual adults or teens may register. If desired, this series of workshops offers the rare opportunity for students as well as their parents to register for the same art class.

U ART BOOT CAMP 1 – FIGURE DRAWING FROM THE MODEL (9TH–12TH & ADULT)

June 1 – 5 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Registration Fee: $300 plus a $30 model and materials fee ($330)Drawing from a live model (clothed in a bathing suit/athletic shorts), artist participants will develop and strengthen their drawing skills working first with shorter poses and later with longer poses. Stepwise drawing techniques, materials handling, analytical tools, proportions, comparative measuring, and form modeling will be covered. Materials will be provided.

U ART BOOT CAMP 2 – OIL PAINTING AND VALUE STUDIES (9TH–12TH & ADULT)

June 8 – 12 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Registration Fee: $300 plus a $30 materials fee ($330)There’s no substitute for a thorough introduction to an art medium, so Art Boot Camp 2 starts with a thorough introduction to oil paint materials and supplies including oil mediums and solvents, oil substrates including stretched canvases and painting panels, and different oil painting techniques and considerations for each. Then artist participants will paint in oil from still life props to create monochromatic value studies (grisailles). Oil paint handling, substrate preparation, paint mixing, stepwise painting techniques, form modeling and painting strategies will be covered. Materials will be provided.

U ART BOOT CAMP 3 – PAINTING COLOR STUDIES IN OIL (9TH–12TH & ADULT)

June 15 – 19 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Registration Fee: $300 plus a $30 materials fee ($330)Understanding light and color perception is key to successful color mixing. The human eye can decipher millions of colors, so the notion of memorizing individual color recipes is not practical. However, once one learns the logic of mixing, an artist can mix any color in any medium. Art Boot Camp 3 begins with color theory and continues with its practical application by creating color studies of still life props in oil paint. Limited, extended, prepared and open color palettes, the component parts of all color mixtures, field effects, color mixing strategies, edges and paint application will be addressed. Materials will be provided. Participants in this workshop should have attended Art Boot Camp 2 or have previously worked in oil paint.

Discount: There is a $30 discount for artists who enroll in all three Michelangelo Project Art Boot Camps.
