RMIT Outreach Program to KTHS

This year KTHS participated in an STEM (Science, Technology, Mathematics and Maths) program

with RMIT University designed to improve educational outcomes for students in country areas and

promote further interest in STEM. Year 7’s looked at car crash testing to design the most effective

way to minimise harm to passengers in a car accident. They also looked at air rockets, trying to fly

them through hoops testing aerodynamics. Year 8’s studied Herd Immunisation and how germs

spread. The students were thoroughly engaged and enjoying themselves.

International Day of People with a Disability

Last Tuesday students from KTHS attended Atkinson Park to provide assistance in running a

program for the International Day of People with a Disability. While there, they assisted with

workshops like painting Christmas Trees, making bubbles and dancing. A big thank you to Mardy

McDonald, Jordan Bassett, Toby Winfield, Abbey Pay, Taylah McNeil and Sam Burandt who did

themselves and the school proud by getting in and getting involved. Your assistance was very much

appreciated.

Wilson’s Prom Walk

Next week nine students head off to Wilson’s Promontory to begin an 6 day hike. This is a fantastic

opportunity for the current group of KTHS and continues a tradition that started back in 2002.

There has been some wonderful memories during those times including spectacular weather,

sightings of flora and fauna, amazing sunrises and sunsets and lifelong memories. We look forward

to hearing about your adventures when you get back.
