Final340kW V8 to exit marketvia limited-run editions ofMaloo, ClubSport, Grange
By DANIEL GARDNERHOLllEN Special Vehicles (HSV) isgiving its venerable naturally aspiretecG.2-litre L53 V8 one last hwrah underthe bonnet of three limited-editiorClubSport and Maloo variants with somcof the most accessible pricetags in theAustralian perfom~ance brand's history. The 340kW engine — curcently only
offered in the long-wheelbase HSVGrange — is being pitched as a specialoffer to performance enthusiasts, providing "unrivalled value and a ̀finalbuy' opportunity" before being put outto pasture in October this year whenEuro 5 emissions rules kick in.
Starting from $62,990 plus on-roadcosts, the A4aioo R8 SV Brack ute andits $65,990 ClubSport sedan equivalentreintroduce the L53 VS that was phasedout in short-wheelbase HSV vehicleswith the arrival of the supercharged

LSA in October last year.In addition to the new entry-level
variants, [he SV Black pair are beingoffered alongside a hardcore ClubSportRS Track Edition For $68,990 and amore luxury-focused $86,990 GrangeSV, both of which share the revenant61-litre powerplant.HS4 fans will remember the SV
Black edition from its previousappearance in the range in 2011, and thecompany says the nameplate will attractas much attention this time around witha selection of blacked-out aesthetictweaks in limited nwnbers. The ClubSport RS SV Black will be
limited to 350 examples, while just 1 OUof its Maloo equivalent will be on offer.New Zealand will get 18 of the sedansand just two utes. These get satin-black Rapier 20-inch
wheels, blacked-out door surtounds,
bonneWoot badges, lower door accentsand matching dark chrome exhaust tips, while the standard AP Racing fow-potcallipers are also painted black. The black extras are complemented
by black fender vents, mirror capsand a 'satin graphite' boot spoiler forthe ClubSport, while the black themecontinues on the inside with leathersports seats, SV Black badging and [heindividual build number."We know, from experience, [hat our
customers really connect with the SVBlack stylinb theme;' said HSV chiefdesigner Julian Quincey."The visual enhancements we've
introduced with the Gen-F2 SV Blackrange really dial-up the vehicle's streetpresence, and we've no doubt thisrange will emulate the success of thelast SV Black."

HSV celebrates production of 85,000th vehicleBy RON HAMMERTON
AUSTRALIA'S biggest and best-known performance car manufacturer,Holden Special Vehicles (HSV), hascelebrated the production of its 85,000thvehicle — a Commodore-based Gen-F2C1ubSport R8 LSA.The factory-backed operation —due
to mark its 30th anniversary next yearjust as local Holden production draws toa close —says it will deliver the car toHSV's longest-serving dealership, Garryand Wan-en Smith in Oakleigh, Victoria, where a lucky buyer can snap it up.The dealership is close to where HSV
began operations in 1987 in the wake ofHolden's falling out with Peter Brockand his HDT s}~ecial vehicles company.Born to fill the hot Holden vacuum,
HSV was founded in a deal betweenHolden and former B►-itish touring carracer and LJK special vehicle builder TomWalkinshaw in association with Holdenexecutive John Crennan, who becameHSV's founding managing director. One of the first employees was
former racecar driver and HDT stafferJohn Harvey.Current managing director Tim
Jackson said HSV's beginnings atits first production site at Notting
Hill were humble, "with just threeemployees, a single desk, two chairsand one telephone".He said that over its 29 years,
the company had been constantlyremi»ded of the continued dedicationand passion shown by its employees, dealers and customers."This is a milestone that can be
Uroudly shared by them all," he said. While it took HSV about four years
to turn out its first 5000 vehicles, themost recent 10,000 cars have come inlittle more than three years, at the rateof about 3000 a year.HSV's cars are part-built at Holden's
Elizabeth factory in Soutli Australiabefore Ueing shipped to HSV's currentproduction base at Clayton, Victoria, for finishing touches on a dedicatedassembly line.
It remains to be seen what willreplace this arrangement when HoldenCommodore local production finishesin the second half of next year, although,as GoAuto has reported, HSV is keento continue business with Holden bydeveloping a new program using theimported Commodore as a base.
