IntroductionGod’s word says a great deal about a Christian’s character: Gal. 5:22-23; 2 Pet. 1:5-7; 2 Cor. 8:21; Eph. 4:25

Humility is not weakness
Even His enemies recognized the power of Christ: Mk. 1:27; Jn. 5:19

The Truth About Humility
5
Humility does not preclude leadership
Jesus was “meek and lowly in heart”; the most humble man to ever live! Matt. 11:29; Phil. 2:5-8
But His humility did not prevent Him from exercising leadership: 1 Pet. 5:4
Was Jesus a Mr. Milquetoast? NO! 1 Tim. 6:15; Rom. 1:16; Matt. 28:18; Col. 1:16, 18
Some cite their humility as an excuse to not exercise leadership: 1 Tim. 3:2-7
Rather than hindering leadership, humility defines the style of leadership pleasing to God: 1 Pet. 5:2-3

Humility does not forbid rebuking sin
Jesus dished out some of the most scathing rebukes recorded in Scripture: Matt. 19:13-15; 21:12-13; Matt. 23
But Jesus was just as humble in Matthew 21 and 23 as He was in chapter 19.
In each case His words were not His own: Jn. 5:30
Humility should characterize all of our dealings with sinners and those in error: 2 Tim. 2:24-25; Gal. 6:1
The Truth About Humility

Humility is not inconsistent with personal initiative
The church needs all of us! Rom. 12:4-8; 1 Cor. 12:12; Eph. 4:16
Some don’t participate fully using the pretense of humility.
The demands of humility are in Philippians 2:3The Truth About
Humility

Humility doesn’t demand we speak disdainfully of ourselves
Many believe humility requires this type of behavior.
In reality such a person is exhibiting false humility.
Such a person is proud of being humble! Lk. 18:11-12
Humility isn’t the cause of such a situation; it’s the solution: Phil. 2:3-4; Jn. 19:11 The Truth About
Humility

ConclusionTrue humility replaces self-seeking with
seeking first the kingdom of God: Matt. 6:33True humility requires:
Forsaking one’s self-will for God’s will: Matt. 7:21
Suppressing one’s self-confidence for confidence in God: 2 Tim. 1:12
Substituting self-exaltation with exaltation by God: 1 Pet. 5:6
“Lord, thy love at last has conquered: None of self, and all
of Thee.”
