High Performance Curtain Wall Provides Big Savings
The life-cycle cost study was conducted by the consulting engineeringfirm of Ross & Baruzzini, Inc., who were the mechanical engineeringconsultants for the project. Their study indicated that at the end of the ten(10) year period being considered, the VISIONWALL system not onlymade up the cost differential to the conventional system, but saved theowner an additional $300,000+.
®
The use of the VISIONWALL high performance system had a dramaticimpact on the first cost of the mechanical system, saving over $350,000.Capital cost savings were realized in the following areas:
Reduced HVAC multi-zone system size.Elimination of hot water finned tube perimeter heating system inmany areas due to VISIONWALL’s high thermal efficiency.Reduced chilled water distribution system for cooling due toVISIONWALL’s improved shading coefficients.
Reduced plant energy consumption (as a result of the smaller HVACsystem) with the VISIONWALL system has resulted in operating costsavings of approximately $52,000/year since the completion of thisproject in 1996.

The City of St. Louis wanted to build a 200,000
square foot, $6.1 million expansion of the EastTerminal at Lambert St. Louis International Airport. This expansion included 41,000 square feet ofcurtain wall.
A life-cycle costs analysis was done to compare thetrue costs of a VISIONWALL high performancecurtain wall system to a conventional double glazedcurtain wall system for use in the terminal expansionat Lambert St. Louis International airport. This studyconsidered the first cost of the two glazing systems,HVAC system capital cost reductions and operatingcost savings. The study was done at the request ofthe airport authority (owner) to verify the architect’sdesign decision to utilize the VISTONWALL curtainwall system.
