Facts Africa's main problem is poverty, disease and

illiteracy, Green revolution did not have a profound

improvement in food production due to harsh climatical conditions and poor land tenure system

Scarce resources leads to social conflicts which at times leads to armed disputes

Africans are hardworking and able to produce products like flowers among other goods

Facts Flower production with a guaranteed market offers jobs

to many Africans giving them a income that pushes them above the $2 per day poverty line

February 2008, Kenya surpassed the 2011 flower exports even a midst closer of other sectors due to PEV.

Finlays is the largest fairtrade producer in Africa employing 22,000 people (13% of total FT employees in the world)

All the three regions that Finlays operate are pillars of peace for Kenya(Kericho, Naivasha, Mt Kenya)

FactsKericho- employs over 14000 people who lie in the

farms and did not fight one another in 2007-2008 P.E.V. despite its location inside the Kalenjin land,

Naivasha- an epicenter of the PEV violence was in production too during the PEV,

Mt Kenya- From Isiolo (59 km from Timau where Finlays farms are located) all the way to Ethiopia boarder every herder caries a gun to protect their animals

(Hadija 17 yr old Maasai girl, in Huruma home for the destitute for five years)

End Poverty and Hunger

Fairtrade Flowers for peace in Africa!

Improved salaries and wages now standing at over 2 $ daily,

Posho mills and cooperative stores supply affordable foods to the workers through FT premium,

subsidized hot meals available , Increased job creation through the expanding farms Improved capacity building has improved the workers

earnings and opens social mobility, Revolving funds and loans through FT premium

enables workers' to set up small businesses which supplement family income

Sustainable food production projects like the poultry etc

Universal primary education

Over 50 new classes have been built through the FT premium enabling over 3000 pupils to get education,

Schools renovated and equipped with desks and other running materials

Clean water availed through storage tanks and bore holes

School feeding programmes for pre-primary children

FT premium has been used in bursaries' for workers children in secondary schools

FT premium has been used in helping children homes,

Children crèches have been built in the farms; New health facilities have been built e.g. Naivasha

Women care centre, Free mosquito nets to the workers protects children

Global Partnership FT premium is the best way that global

partnership can be achieved. The premium acts as a seed that spurs

development once it germinates and blooms under the care of FT stringent monitoring and evaluation

30% of the funding for the naivasha women care centre is from premium,

970 babies born in two months July/august- two mothers occupied a bed each in the new building
