Summary of the study

This study aimed to recognize effectiveness of metacognition strategies to modify the alternative perception of scientific concepts for the ninth grade students.

The study problem was identified into the following questions:

* what is the effectiveness of metacognition strategies to modify the alternative perception of scientific concepts for the primary ninth grade students ?

The following questions steaming from the main question:-

- What are the alternative perceptions hold by the ninth grade

students about the scientific concepts in science related to the

biology unit?

- What are the metacognition strategies that are suitable to modify

the alternative perception of scientific concepts for the ninth grade

students?

- What is the effectiveness of the metacognition strategies in

modifying the alternative perception of scientific concepts in

biology unit for the grade students?

- Are there statistically significant differences at level(α≤0.05) in the

students average between the experimental group and the control

group at the posttest of the alternative perceptions?

- Are there statistically significant differences at level(α≤0.05) in the

students average between the high achieving students of the

experimental group and their counterparts of the control group at

the posttest of the alternative perceptions?

- Are there statistically significant differences at level(α≤0.05) in the

students average between the low achieving students of the

experimental group and their counterparts of the control group at

the posttest of the alternative perceptions?

- To what extent the students retention the concepts after a period

of time of at least one month ?

The researcher followed the quasi- experimental method.

The sample of the study was selected from the ninth grade students

in Al Maghazi prep boys schools For refugees . The sample composed

of (60) students who were divided into two groups, experimental and

control group. The independent variable was subjected "using of

metacognition strategies " For testing on the first dependent variable

"Modifying the alternative perception of scientific concepts .

To achieve the objectives of the study, a test of diagnose the

alternative perception and a guide for a teacher were prepared. After

verifying its validity and reliability of the pretest and posttest were

applied on the two groups of study. The results were analyzed before

applying the study to be sure of the equality of the two groups and

after to know Significant differences between the students average of

the experimental group and the control group. The statistics methods

were averages, standard deviations, Correlation coefficient , (T-test)

Mann - Whitney test (U) and ETA square .

The results of the study showed the effectiveness of metacognition

strategies to modify the alternative perception of scientific concepts

of the ninth grade students . the following results were attained:

- There are many alternative perceptions for human body systems

concepts for students of the research sample most of them were in a

large rate .

- There are statistically significant differences at level of (0.05) in the

average of students scores between the experimental group and the

control group at the posttest of the alternative perceptions favored

to the experimental group.

- there are statistically significant differences at level(α≤0.05) in the

students average between high achieving students of the

- there are statistically significant differences at level(α≤0.05) in the

students average between low achieving students of the

experimental group and their counterparts of the control group at

the posttest in the alternative perceptions.

- there are statistically significant differences at level(α≤0.05) n the

students average of the experimental group between the posttest

and the retention test.

The researcher recommended the need to prepare diagnostic test to the

alternative prepare of the scientific concepts and hold some workshop to

train the teachers how to identify the alternative perceptions of the

scientific concepts and to use modern teaching studies to modify the

alternative perceptions of the scientific concepts .
