The history of ECM
First we had paperPaper needed foldersFolders could get so big and heavy that we needed
volumes
Paper was archived to boxes
Boxes were put on shelves in warehouses
People created systems for referencing content
There was a typing poolThere were filing clerksThere were librariansEssentially, there was an army of people who were paid to keep everything in orderThen came the PC, and we were all
empowered to create and manage our own content
So we started piling up content on our desktop and saving it to floppy disks (remember those?)
