Please note that this position is within the criteria of ‘regulated activity’ and requires an Enhanced

by Lifeworks. You will be required to sign up for the update service, the cost of this service is £13.00,

which will be met by Lifeworks, subject to successful completion of a 6 month probationary period. It

will not be possible to use an existing DBS certificate.

RECRUITMENT OF EX-OFFENDERS

Job Description

About Lifeworks

Lifeworks is based in Dartington near Totnes and was established in 1996. It is a small but growing charity at an exciting time in its development. Our primary objective is to reach out to children and young people with learning disabilities in the South West and make a positive influence which leads to individuals with learning disabilities sharing in full, rewarding and active lives as valued members of their local community.

About the Role

Lifeworks is looking for a Learning Support Assistant to work at its Further Education Specialist College to support students with learning disabilities in their learning, physical and personal needs. The role will support individuals or groups in the college building or out in the community, as part of a team or working alone.

Learning Support Assistants are expected to work flexibly, collaboratively and take specific responsibilities under the direction of a teacher to deliver education and training to learning disabled students. To be a key person in supporting the students through transition from school and delivering the students stated outcomes to be able to participate in independent living and working. To be part of The Lifeworks Charity by supporting its values and philosophy.

Terms and Conditions

Salary: £11,860 pro rata based on 1320 annualised hours contract

Contract: Fixed Term Contract until August 2016

Start Date: 1st September 2015, subject to successful completion of positive vetting

procedures

To support and take key roles in the delivery of teaching and learning of the college curriculum,

the students Individual Learning Plan, independence skills, outdoor education and work

placements

To be a key person in specific curriculum areas

To support in the planning of differentiated learning programmes

Will have experience working with young people with learning disabilities

Will have knowledge and experience of working in education preferably in secondary or further education

Will have a good personal level of education

Will have a good standard of literacy and numeracy with a minimum of ‘C’ grade GCSE in Maths and English

Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, Power Point and Excel

Will have some knowledge of medical and therapeutic needs relating to people with disabilities

Previous experience of working with children or young people with complex and challenging behaviour is desirable
