My Day

• Describe briefly to the group your daily 'work'

• In pairs share briefly some details your daily life and job– What is your typical day? – What is the most satisfying thing about your daily tasks? – And what is the least satisfying?

Note: Daily work might not be paid employment. Work could be defined as “what I do regularly not just for my own benefit.”

Work and Faith

• How does our daily 'work' fit with our faith?

• Do we have a sense of God in our daily tasks, whether they are managing a team, teaching a class, looking after young children....?

• Do we have a sense of being God's person in those tasks - or is there a disconnect?

Take-home question

• Brainstorm together the core value and role of two or three group members to help answer the ‘Take-home question’

• Consider your own personal answer during the week

Faith & Work Case Studies

Read the case studies then consider the following questions:

1. Being a priest like Whitney Roberson is an obviously 'Christian' job, but there's nothing particularly 'Christian' about cab-driving, or factory-owning.

How did Ken Ashton and George Cadbury become 'God's people' in their jobs?

2. How might the idea of 'divine hospitality' help us make connections between God's love and our daily tasks?

Reflection

Colossians 3:23-24

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart,

as working for the Lord, not for men,

since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.

It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
