Performance Suggestions
1) This affangement is based on the classic r".or*ng of the song by jazzguitarist/singer George Benson. Play the recording for your students
for ideas on style and improvisation.
2) This is an excellent exercise for the developing improviser. Beginningwith measure 53 there are 16 measures of group "scat" soli. Thissection may be repeated many times to allow for vocal or instrumentalimprovisation. Also, measures 102-103 may be repeated many timesfor solo improvisation; improvisation continues in measures 104-105,with the group vocal background added.
3) I would encourage you to add Latin percussion instruments (perhaps
played by the singers) as an appropriate background (bongos, congas,
shakers, guiro, maracas, claves, etc.).
4) The solos (measures 2l-36,70-85) may be sung by male, female, duetor small group. The soloists should be encouraged to explore theirown creativity and style.
5) Have fun and enjoy the challenge!
