Col 1(15-17)  He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

Jesus is

100% God

Jesus is100%

Human

All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

The Mystery of Godliness

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.

Page 2: + Col 1(15-17) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth,

+ The Proof is in the Resurrection Mark 16(1-6)  When the Sabbath was over, Mary

Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, they *came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3 They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” 4 Looking up, they *saw that the stone had been rolled away, although it was extremely large. 5 Entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed. 6 And he *said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him.

+ The Resurrection is the Focal point of Christianity's Validity

Romans 8(11) But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Romans 10(9) that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; (SOZO)

Jesus was the sacrifice that redeemed us at the Cross.

Redeem = payment of a price to recover from the power of another, to ransom, to buy off.

The resurrection proves that the sacrifice was

accepted.

+Three Resurrection Realities

John17 (7-11)  But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

8 And He, when He comes, will convict (convince)the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; 11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

Page 5: + Col 1(15-17) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth,

+ 1. Sin – not believing in Jesus for eternal life (Sozo, body soul and spirit)

1John 5 (11-12)  and the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal (aiōnios) life, (Zoe) and this life(Zoe) is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; (Zoe) he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. (Zoe)

II Tim 1(10) but it now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life (Zoe) and immortality (Aftharsea) to light through the gospel.

(ä-fthär-sē'-ä) Immortality= perpetual incorruption the state of continuing forever.

Zoe= zō-ā' the Quickening breath of God to make us a living being.

Aionios ī-ō'-nē-os = age of duration.

Page 6: + Col 1(15-17) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth,

+ Life Forever is only in Him Who is Immortal, the King of the Ages

I Tim 1(15-17) It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. 16 Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal (Aion) life. (Zoë) 17 Now to the King eternal (Aion), immortal, (aphthartos) invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever (Aion) and ever (Aion). Amen.

King Eternal (Aion)= describes the ruler of the ages

Immortal (aphthartos) ä'-fthär-tos not liable to corruption or decay, imperishable

For Ever (Aion=unto age) & ever (Aion=age)

+ 2. Righteousness – …" because I go to the Father…" Jesus’s ascension to the Godhead

with 100% Glorified humanity and 100% Divinity

2Cor.5(21) He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Hebrews 4(15) For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.

Matt 8(17) His was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.

+ Early Church Perspective

Gregory of Nazianzus (330-390 AD) Archbishop of Constantinople

Jesus died because humanity must be sanctified by the humanity of God, that He might deliver us Himself, and overcome the tyrant, and draw us to Himself by the mediation of his Son. Christ became the ‘curse-itself ’ in order to destroy the whole condemnation of sin. Gregory taught the concept of theosis, the belief that all Christians can be assimilated with God in "imitation of the incarnate Son as the divine model.''

+ 3. "And concerning judgment,(Krisis) because the ruler of this world has been

judged.'' (Krino)

(Krisis) -denotes "the process of investigation, the act of distinguishing and separating" because the ruler of this world has been judged.

(Krino) "To call in question,"- i.e. summoned to trial so that one's case may be examined and judgment of a verdict be passed upon it.

+ Resurrection Good News 2 Colossians 13 When you were dead in your

transgressions and the un-circumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.

Hebrews 2(14) Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil.
