This month we are bringing the spotlight to someone from Golf Course Maintenance.

Maciel Trejo is just a typical guy outside of Bay Oaks Country Club. He is married with two kids and lives in Dickinson Texas. Maciel started at Bay Oaks 18 years ago on the GCM crew. He worked his way up from weed eater to equipment operator.

Maciel is one of the most important crew members on the Agronomy staff and was promoted to head mechanic in 2019. He is a very detail-oriented mechanic, and it shows in his work. He strives to have the best course conditions possible for the Membership and welcomes not only the goodcomments but the bad ones as well.

Maciel has no problem getting out on the course with a weed eater or mower whenthe crew is behind. He always says they are a team, and it takes a team to do their job.Without Maciel, the superintendent’s job would be very difficult and stressful. He is ateam leader, and the crew looks up to him.

If you happen to see Maciel around the course, make sure and say hello and thankhim for his hard work.

Golf Course Maintenance

This is mosquito spray and sunscreenseason. Please apply spray on sunscreenand bug spray over concrete. Whensprayed on grass a chemical in the spraydiscolors the grass leaving spots on thegolf course. It is easy to see where theperson was standing as the footprintsare clearly green and the grass is brownaround them.

We have aerification coming up on June7-9 and we will have a contractor out toinject sand into the greens we soddedlast year and the Clubhouse puttinggreen. This process is called Dryject. Thiswill help the greens and open channelsfor roots and water to go through. Wewill also do our normal aerification ofpulling cores on all the greens.

Check our Club Facebook page to keepup with the progress we are making onthe Club grounds and golf course. Pleasefeel free to contact me with anyquestions or comments you may haveconcerning golf course maintenance.
