Chocolate production
Chocolate production starts with harvesting
cocoa beans in a forest Cocoa beans come from tropical evergreen cocoa
trees (Theobroma Cocoa) growing in Central and South America, West Africa and Southeast Asia
Harvesting Cocoa & Cocoa processing
Cocoa needs to be harvested manually The beans will be selected and placed in piles Then these cocoa beans are ready to be
shipped to the manufacturer for mass production.
Cocoa beans grow in pods The pods are about the size of a football The pods are green When they‘re ripe they change colour to
orange Workers must use machetes because
machines could damage trees and their flowers
Picking and opening the Pods
Cocoa beans are placed on trays and heated
by the sun Workers must move them from time to time During the fermenting the beans turn brown
Fermenting the cocoa seeds
After fermenting the cocoa seeds must be
dried Then workers put them into sacks and
transport them to the chocolate manufacturers
Drying the cocoa seeds
Machines change the cocoa beans into cocoa
butter and chocolate The dried and roasted cocoa beans are melted
into chocolate liquor Then manufactures add sugar, milk or any
flavour Then machines wrap and pack the chocolates
and they are ready to transport
