One hour presentation on Occupational Health and Safety in Construction was made jointly by Toby Vokuhl (Construction Manager) and Prabuddha Bhatarai (Audiologist) on 8th Chaitra (22nd March). The main aim of this presentation was to increase awareness

of the occupational health and safety issues in construction workers among INF staff and contractors. About 25 people, including 2 from Construction Company participated in the programme. Three major construction hazards: noise, airborne fibres & materials and Asbestos were discussed during the session.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY IN CONSTRUCTION PROGRAMME

PALLIATIVE CARE TRAINING

Green Pastures Hospital celebrated International Nurses Day on 29th of Baisakh (12th of May) with the theme of NURSES: A VOICE TO LEAD - HEALTH FOR ALL. An introductory speech on the importance of Nurses Day celebrations was given by GPH, Nursing Superintendent, Mrs Karuna Tamang Gurung, followed by best wishes and motivational speeches delivered by the programme guests. The programme included a group song and a lively dance performance by GPH nurses.

The palliative care team organized two days of training for the Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT) focused on their home carers.

NURSES DAY CELEBRATION

This innovative and unique training was held at Beth Eden on 25th and 26th of Chaitra (8th and 9th April) with 20 keen participants including five GWT staff. The participants shared experiences of looking after family members, learnt about holistic palliative care, and increased their practical and communication skills. At the end of the training there were more happy faces than at the beginning.

22A three-day free ear Outreach camp from 18th to 20th Chaitra (1st April 2019 to 3rd April) was conducted in Harinas Rural Municipality-4 Chitrebhanjyang, Syangja. 202 people benefited directly from the free Outreach camp.

PASTORAL CARE : HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MONTH

DEVELOPMENT WORK AT GPH In coordination with Rupakot Rural Municipality, Dr Ramesh and Sister Ming Yuek Poon participated in a one day skin camp on 9th of Baisakh ( 23rd of May). 110 patients came for the clinic but no leprosy was suspected. Leprosy leaflets were distributed to all who attended.

RUPAKOT CAMP

A Team of Medical Doctors with ear care providers and workers including public health professionals and other support staffs were involved in service delivery at the Outreach Camp. Free of cost Syringing Services to 26 patients along with audio testing for 58 patients, (of whom 26 were referred to Green Pastures Hospital for further investigation) was provided at the camp. The following were referred for treatment - hearing aid-19, OT-8, Syringing-11, and follow up-42.

Dr. Robert from UK (Electrical Engineer, PHD) visited GPH from 27th Chaitra -19th Baishak (10th May to 2nd June). He supported the maintenance of Audiograms, headphones and Hearing Aid repair at the Ear Centre.

Dr.Ruth, an ENT Doctor from UK was happy to help us in Ear Outreach Camp at Mujire. She was at GPH from 11th-22nd of Chaitra (25th March to 5th April). During her stay at GPH she helped by advising and discussing OPD cases with doctors and ECP/ECWs.

Hafiza, an audiologist visited the Ear Centre from 11th Chaitra to 9th Baishak (25th of March to 22nd of April) .A general session on Tinnitus, the balance system and vestibular physio were provided to Audiologists and Therapists of GPH.ECP/ECWs also benefited from problem based learning audio sessions with her.
