Greetings from Pastor Mike...

I’m glad to see each of you this morning! An oft-repeated greeting in

Scripture is one I extend to you today: Grace and peace to you from our

Lord Jesus Christ!

Never before do I remember God gripping my heart in the way He has in

the past few weeks. My distinct sense is that He is lighting a spiritual

fuse at West Haven. I so desire to see Him build a work that can only be

explained by the movement of the Holy Spirit. That’s why we continue

on today in 1 Thessalonians 5. God wants us to examine everything we hear and read,

determine if it is biblical, and if it is to hold fast to it. By His grace we can do that. He

loves us! And when we do that, His Spirit is unquenched, His grace is unleashed and

His Son is exalted!

Our next Garments of Praise is this weekend at Clinton, Mo. I wonder if you would be

willing to take a step of faith and join me as one of the counselors? Someone

mentioned to me this week that a way to really experience God is to jump right into the

middle of what God wants to do in people’s lives. Maybe this is something God is

wanting you to do to experience Him and His power in a way you’ve never experienced.

Wouldn’t it be something if you served as a counselor and discovered that God

changed your life in the process? THERE IS A CATCH! I NEED YOU TO TELL

ME TODAY! We have to start assigning people to various areas tomorrow so talk

to me today! In case you wonder about training, I’ll be training the counselors at

Clinton this Friday night. You can sign up today at the Welcome Center. If you have

questions, let me know. I’d be glad to talk to you!

I’m happy to announce that we will be ordaining David Bronson to the gospel

ministry on Sunday night, October 13. Obviously that is very special to me because

he is my son. Few fathers receive such a blessing! It’s also special because it’s still

another couple that is being launched into the gospel ministry from West Haven. Thank

you Lord! We will give you more details soon!

Your Servant in Christ,

How Can I Give To West Haven? You can use an offering envelope and give through check

or cash. At our website, you can give through Visa,

Mastercard, American Express, Discover or your debit

card. (We pay a small transaction fee when you give

electronically.) If you want to be signed up for autopay

through your bank, contact Jamie via e-mail at

[email protected]. These options are available

so you can choose what best fits you.

Praying For A Great Awakening

Often in Scripture, the leaders of God’s people called the people together to pray (e.g.

Ex 32:26, Ezra 10:1, Neh 8:1). In addition to praying individually and with your family,

here are some opportunities for the body to gather and pray:

1. Oct. 7, Nov. 4, and Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. our deacons will lead us in prayer at what I’m

calling “First Mondays.” Bring your children!

2. Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. in Room 201.

3. I’ve asked Growth Group leaders to make this a priority and spend a few meetings

entirely in prayer.

4. Pray in Sunday School class.

5. Start a prayer group yourself!

Let’s cry out to God in humility and faith!

Are you missing a travel coffee mug? Plastic food storage

container? Pinwheel? Hairbrush? Bible? Bible study notes? We

have several items that have been found throughout the church

building over the past several months. We have placed these

items on a small table in the fellowship hall near the kitchen.

Please take a moment over the next two Sundays to pick up any

items that may belong to you. Items left after Sunday,

September 22 will be disposed of.

"Growing in Christ" Bible Study

A new Growing in Christ class will begin Wednesday, September 18th in Pastor Mike's

office from 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. Please register by September 15th. Sign up sheet is at the

Welcome Center. For more information, please call the office.

Monday, October14 at 8:30 a.m. our senior

adults will be hosting a breakfast in the

fellowship hall. It is not necessary to bring a

dish to this event. Instead, bring a friend. We

look forward to seeing!

Sunday October 20 will be a special day at West Haven.

Ed Hearn will share his testimony that morning. Ed was a

member of the New York Mets who defeated the Boston Red

Sox in the 1986 World Series. Ed and I share a special bond.

He is the only other adult who I know who has the exact same

kidney disease that I have. He has had three transplants. He

went from being a World Series winner to a kidney transplant

to severe depression to considering suicide in a span of just a

few years. His testimony is amazing. I can’t wait for you to

hear him. It’s going to be a gospel-centered and joyful day.

To make it extra special, here’s what we want to do:

1. No adult or children’s Sunday School that morning.

2. Chris Cakes will be here to serve pancakes in the fellowship hall from 8:15 – 10:00.

This will be fun! Please come early, bring your kids and enjoy a fellowship breakfast

with the entire church family. (Please help us with the 10 a.m. deadline!)

3. Church will begin at 10:30. Ed will preach.

4. After church you can meet Ed in the Train Station. You can have pictures taken with

him, his World Series ring and trophy. Often after hearing his testimony, people want to

visit with him privately to receive encouragement and counsel.

What a great morning to introduce someone to West Haven and to Jesus Christ! –

Pastor Mike

FOR OUR GUESTS

If you are a guest, we are glad you are here!

1. Our nursery is located at the north end of the lower level. You can leave your infants or

preschoolers in a warm, caring and well-supervised environment. You will be given a pager

that will immediately alert you if your child needs attention.

2. Children’s Church for children K-3rd grade is located on the north side of the lower level in

Room 103. Please check your children in before the service so we can provide you with a

pager. After the service, children are not released from Children’s Church until a parent

checks them out.

3. Please complete the insert in your worship folder entitled “Worship Attendance

Information” and pass it to the inside of your aisle at the end of the service.

We invite you to become a member of the West Haven family!

A believer without a church is like a sheep without a flock or a child without a family. The

Bible teaches us to be committed to a local New Testament church. To fulfill God’s

purpose for West Haven, we need you to become a committed part of the fellowship,

sharing your testimonies, gifts and abilities!

You can become a member of West Haven in one of three ways:

1. By Baptism: If you confess Jesus as Lord and have not been Scripturally baptized by

immersion, we will arrange for you to participate in believer's baptism and thus

become a member.

2. By Letter: We will receive you by promise of letter from another Southern Baptist

Church indicating that you are a member in good standing.

3. By Statement: If you confess Jesus as Lord and have been baptized by immersion

after salvation in a church of like belief, we will receive you.

Spiritual decisions should be made publicly. We also desire that you be publicly

introduced to the church. Therefore, we ask all candidates for membership come forward

during the invitation time to declare your intention. (We will never embarrass you!)

Attending our new member’s “Connection” class is recommended but not mandatory for

membership. It is a two-week class taught by Pastor Mike and is offered at various times

throughout the year.
