Se a UCP produz calor por aumentar a oxidação de substratos e o consumo de oxigênio, a hexokinase mitocondrial que também aumenta o consumo de oxigênio nos mesmos níveis da UCP, seria um potencial gerador de calor.
Investigar a produção de calor por atividade de hexokinase mitocondrial em mitocondrias isoladas de tubérculos de batata e cérebro de ratos.

Ainda não foi verificado a presença de atividade de hexokinase em mitocôndrias isoladas de BAT.
