landscaping happenend between 1993 to 2005

a result of the quarrying of brown coal

major part of the project was to flood the old and abandoned mine ‚Bockwitz‘

one of the biggest nature reserves in Saxony (since 2003)

there live:

180 bird species12 amphibian species4 reptile species379 plant species

& a lot of very rare species

mew gull

warty newt

marsh orchid

a strongly educated biostructure with aid of the

ecological station Borna – Birkenhain

up to 20 meters deep

new plans for the lake:

cycle paths watersport

activities

renaturated: 4 branch streams of

the ‚Weiße Elster‘ the ‚Wyhra‘ village ponds

12 parks improved

80 hectare woodland planted

rescue centre for hurt wild animals

ecological observation of building projects like streets,

plumbing, protection against water

rescue and resettlement of endangered animal breeds
