11 Greater Kashmir SRINAGAR | August 13, 2015, Thursday Academic arrangement in Kashmir colleges runs into rough weather GK NEWS NETWORK Srinagar, Aug 12: The con- tractual lecturers and teach- ing assistants working at various colleges have blamed irregularities in the selec- tion process, alleging that authorities reserve ‘prize’ postings for their loved ones. The vacancies from dif- ferent colleges are called well in advance and a merit list is prepared following which the selection of can- didates is performed. According to sources, once the merit list is pre- pared, the candidates are called in for a ‘counselling’ session wherein their choice for the place they wish to be posted at is respected. How- ever, the counselling is mere ‘eyewash’ and in its back- drop, the actual malpractices begin to creep in. “The authorities don’t pub- lish the actual appointment list, neither do they show it up on their website,” a Srinagar- based contractual lecturer working in a different district said. “Everybody is in a huff to secure the job and in the rush nobody is able to know where actually the vacancies stood.” The authorities, he said, reserve some ‘prize’ postings for the blue-eyed which are then filled in an ‘utter disre- gard to the merit.’ “According to the merit and as per the counselling, a candidate is supposed to be appointed in his own district as per the require- ment raised by a particular college,” Director Colleges, Tariq Ahmad said. “Aberrations, if any, shall be communicated to the con- cerned authorities and shall duly be taken care of.” He said it is imperative that the selection/appointment list is made public to avoid any controversy. “Our endeavour is to induce a mechanism of transparency at all levels.” 3 revenue officials in Vigilance net Kanipora residents demand macadamisation of road CT official booked for graft Srinagar, Aug 12: Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (VOK) caught an employee posted in the office of Commissioner Commercial Taxes here red handed while demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant for issuance of passenger tax book of his three passenger vehicles. Further investigation into the case has been taken up, the handout added. Srinagar, Aug 12: The Vigi- lance Organization Kashmir has said that the departmen- tal verification has revealed involvement of some revenue officials in ‘illegal’ transfer of land to a beneficiary in Uri area of Baramulla district. “The inquiry has revealed that the then Tehsildar Uri, Girdawar Tehsil office Uri and the then Patwari village Jabla Uri have hatched a conspiracy and dishonestly transferred/mutated State land measuring 8 kanals and 9 marlas under Khasra No. 20 at village Jabla Uri in the name of a beneficiary under the grab of Govt orders LB-6 and S- 432. The land has been shown in the name of benefi- ciary prior to 1969. But as per record of rights from 1959-60 the said land has been found recorded as Gairmumkin Nallah. Besides, under Jama- bandi 1965, the land has also been found recorded as Gair- mumkin Nallah, not found in occupation/possession of any person,” a VOK handout said. “By this forged transfer/ mutation, Rs 971750 was assessed as compensation to the beneficiary on account of land acquisition by NHPC out of which he was paid Rs 777400, thus incurring loss to the state exchequer,” it said and added that a case vide FIR No. 35/2015 P/S VOK was registered and investigation taken up.
