Year of Report: - 2010-11 Name of the Institution :- S.A.P.D.J. Pathashala’s Solapur Walchand College of Arts & Science, Ashok Chowk, Solapur Section A: Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement: 1. The College has decided to initiate Bachelor of Social Work programme in the next year. The College has been running the Post Graduate Department of Social Work. The Department derives students not only from Solapur and the surrounding districts but from the neighboring districts of North Karnataka also. In order to allow the students in and around Solapur district the facility of doing Under Graduation in Social Work and allowing opportunity of pursuing the Post Graduation on the same campus, the College is thinking about initiating the B.S.W. Course. 2. The College has submitted the proposal for M.Sc. Genetics (Integrated) and M.Sc. Bioinformatics (Integrated) courses with a view to start these coursed in the next year. In the same way the proposals for M.A. Hindi and M.A. English courses have also been submitted to Solapur University, Solapur. The M.A. courses will help the students doing Under Graduation in these subjects follow their higher studies in our College. 3. There are plans to send the proposals for beginning Certificate Courses in various components related to Economics, Geography, English, Yoga, Chemistry, Zoology and Electronics. These courses are aimed at helping the students acquire qualifications for setting up small business enterprises and strengthening their claims for better jobs. 4. Different proposals for Seminars and Workshops on topics of current interest and application have been submitted to the UGC, WRO, Pune. Two of the proposals for a Seminar and a Workshop have been sanctioned and necessary funds have been released. These academic events will be organized in the first term of the next academic year. As the College is known for organizing Seminars and Workshops with great amount of consistency, we are planning to prepare and send more proposals for State and National Seminars and Workshops according to the need of the hour. 5. One of the guidelines of NAAC is that the Colleges must undertake more and more Major and Minor Research Projects in order to get the faculty abreast of the latest developments in their disciplines and eventually help the students, the industry and the society at large. In keeping with the guideline our College has taken special steps to undertake research projects. This academic year one Minor Research Project (Zoology) and one Major Research Project (Botany) have been sanctioned and the necessary funds have also been received. There are other potential areas at hand, which will be made into research adventures in the next academic year.

5. Examination Reforms Implemented:
(i) Terminal Theory Examinations: The College conducts internal terminal examinations 20-25 days ahead of final university theory examination. This enables students to complete their studies in advance and prepares them mentally for their better performance in the university examination. The results of all the internal examinations are displayed on notice board and the students’ queries are discussed and they are given proper guidance for final examination.
(ii) Departmental Level Test Examinations: Many faculty members conduct
topic-wise short answer, objective type, short notes type examinations and the results of which are declared to students in their respective classes. These examinations help for continual internal evaluation of students.
(iii) Departmental Level Seminars on Topics from Syllabus: The third year
students are given an opportunity to deliver and deliberate on any one topic of their interest from their syllabus. This gives students, exposure to stage and confidence to present infront of the class. Teachers guide students regarding the preparation of topic and the art of presentation skills.
