Report
Co-President Judy Kirk • Judy reviewed the dates to remember listed on the agenda.
• The slate of nominees was discussed. Vicki Best and Monica Snyder (both
nominees) were not present at the meeting. The following motions were
made in regard to each nominee. o Judy made a motion to nominate Tara Cabardo for President and Lyn
White seconded it. Judy made a motion to nominate Polly Maloich for Advisor and John Millstein seconded it. Judy made a motion to
nominate Kris Hardison as Grants Chair and Jen Buehler seconded it.
Judy made a motion to nominate Vicki Best as School Council rep and Kellie seconded it. Judy nominated George Gonzalez for UPC and
Scholarship Chair and Kris Hardison seconded it. Judy nominated Monica Snyder as Prevention Chair and Janet seconded it. All
nominees were voted in.
• Teacher Appreciation lunch will be Tuesday, May 7 from 11-1, and a breakfast
will be on Thursday from 6:30 – 9:30. We are also collecting gift cards for the teachers. Gift cards can be dropped off in the PAWS mailbox or given to
Nichole.
• Grad seat auction. One bid for 4 seats starts at $100. The deadline for the first round is May 6. This is a fundraiser for PAWS. If there are more bids
than seats then second round begins. 56 seats are auctioned off, which amounts to 18 families. The auction closes Monday at 6 p.m.
Co-President Polly Maloich • Polly will be training Tara over the summer.
• Polly asked club reps to have their treasurers contact Polly about their bank accounts. Anyone not on the board shouldn’t have bank access. PAWS reps
need to resign if they are done this year. The president and treasurers need to complete a formal resignation. Polly asked club reps to remind their club
board to turn over debit cards to the active president. If they do not yet have
a president, then they should turn cards over to Tara. Let Tara know if the treasurer is leaving and then Polly and Tara will contact you.
• There will be a mandatory operations meeting in September. This meeting is
mandatory for club presidents and treasurers. The district requires this and therefore we take attendance. We don’t want to jeopardize our 5013C status.
• Office Depot cards – we can’t get new ones so please make sure they are
passed along to new club presidents.
• If your club is short the required people, let Polly and Tara know this summer
so they can help you out. To be active and in good standing, each club needs a president, treasurer and PAWS rep. The president and treasurer can’t be
married to one another.
Advisor Open Position
Treasurer Jen Buehler • Jen distributed the April report and said it is preliminary.
• We received over $1500 in membership funds and over $1000 for consumer incentives. Grants were recently paid and these are not reflected on the
report. We spent $597 in grants and are now at our budget for grants. We spent $500 on the vaping/opioid presentation. We have a balance of over
$18000.
• Polly mentioned that clubs waiting for a check should email Tara so she can check our mailbox before the school closes.
CFO Tim Abraham • Absent – no report sent in.
Vice-President Open Position

Membership Judy Kirk • Judy stressed the importance of PAWS attending the club Parent meetings. We need to tell parents what PAWS does. It’s a big fundraiser for us and
funds a lot of our scholarships and grants.
• Judy asked clubs that have received a grant to talk up PAWS.
• Additionally, Judy said to let parents know the difference between club booster club and the PAWS booster club.
Prevention Monica Snyder
• Vaping and Opioid presentation was very well attended. We estimated around
250-300 in attendance. There is discussion of bringing Stephanie Siete
(presenter) back in the fall.
• Horizon has set the date to provide Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training all of their certified staff on July 31st from 7-3. CRN will provide two
trainers to assist with this event to co – train along Nurse Muth and Jennifer
Crowley (both YMHFA trainers). This places HHS in an incredible position to be considered as a pilot school for Teen MHFA.
• Teen Mental Health First aid is a great way to bring mental health first aid into
the classroom. Mental Health USA and Born This Way foundation are piloting a teen MHFA (tMHFA) program here in the US. The program has been
successful in Australia and is now being adapted for the US. Ms. Ihnat is very
excited about this opportunity as well. There is no guarantee HHS will be selected but this is an exciting opportunity. The cost for the implementation is
roughly $3200 not including transportation and lodging for each instructor being trained. Each instructor can train 100-150 students. I wanted to give
you a heads up as we are going to try and get support through our site council. We may want to consider allocating funding from our prevention
budget if needed.
Grad Nite 2018
Open Position • Since we will not be having grad nite, we discussed how to spend this money.
Last month we talked about purchasing a cold water fountain for water bottles for students. Apparently PAWS Bylaws prohibits the board from being able to
write a check for this. Instead it has to come from an outside group or club at
school, in the form of a Grant request. There is also an issue with the plumbing for the water fountain. It costs money for plumbing and electrical
work. It was decided to add the water fountain issue as a topic for next year. The Board will vote on using the funds over the summer.
• Polly talked to Linda about getting a drone to take video and pictures at
graduation. Linda is thinking about it and Polly will ask her about it again
Thursday night. The group was discussing other options if Linda does not approve the drone. We would want to do something at the senior breakfast,
like taking a panoramic picture, forming an H on the field. Deb offered to take pictures since she’s a photographer. She will contact Polly.
Scholarship
Chair
George Gonzalez • We received 149 essays. This is a 39% increase over last year. Breakdown of essays for categories is: Academic – 19, Comeback – 37, Fine Arts – 29,
Athletics – 30, Community Service – 23, Pride - 11
• Volunteer judges need to submit their top 3 choices to George by Friday May 3rd.
• Senior Awards ceremony is on Monday, May 20th when the scholarship
recipients will be recognized.
School Council Kelli Parten • Admin reviewed the master schedule and the new 5th hour. Next year will
probably be a successful trial year.
• Admin gave a Prom recap. There was an issue with the music and we got half of our money back.
• Graduation seats – see above.
• For next year the in-hour teacher training will focus on mental health first aid
training – anxiety and depression.
• There may also be a suicide prevention training.
• Kellie will remain on the site council but as not as a parent since her daughter is graduating.
