England, and was adopted as a national emblem of
England around the time of the Wars of the
Roses.

Buckingham Palace finally became the official
royal palace of the British
monarch on the accession of
Queen Victoria in 1837.
The Ballroom is the largest room at
Buckingham Palace. It was added by
Queen Victoria and is used for
ceremonies such as investitures and state banquets.
This picture dates from 1856. The
polychrome colour scheme has been
replaced by mainly white decoration with gold details
and red upholstery.
Queen Victoria, the first monarch to reside at Buckingham Palace, moved into the
newly completed palace upon her accession in 1837.
