FROM PG 14 20 trade unions in Kashmir strike work BJP-PDP government should introspect: Tarigami ‘JK business delegation to soon visit Muzaffarabad’ Mufti for branding Kashmir Handicraft GK NEWS NETWORK Srinagar, Sep 2: Stressing for branding 'Kashmir Handicraft', Chief Minister, Mufti Muham- mad Sayeed, today called for a concerted effort to overcome challenges in the global market- ing of hand-made products. He said investors should take cue from the remarkable success of International Buyer- Seller meet held earlier this year that saw enquiries and online bookings reach a new high. “Our products will continue to capture foreign markets if we sell genuine items with certified price tags,” he said, while laying stress on GI registration, an offi- cial statement said. The Chief Minister said this while interacting with a delega- tion of KCCI here this afternoon. Mufti said: “Our export- oriented handicraft products will sell like hot cakes, even in the wake of fierce competi- tion, if we stick to globally- recognized benchmarks in originality and pricing.” Expressing concern over markets swarming with fakes, the Chief Minister asked the del- egation to play its role in identi- fying persons who masquerade as sellers of genuine products, thus bringing a bad name to Kashmir handicraft industry. Kashmir Expo-2015, which attracted business delegates from as many as 21 countries in the summer capital in May, saw sales worth USD 700,000 made in the first two days. On the issue of preserving art of making handicraft prod- ucts like carpets, paper machie, shawls and wood work, Mufti said Government will make all-out efforts to promote the interests of artisans. “To make the activity economically viable for them, we will bring nearly 3.5 lakh artisans under the ambit of Artisan Credit Card Scheme, on the pattern of Kisan Credit Card that has seen farmers access soft loans worth Rs. 200 crore,” he stated. Spelling out his plans to broaden the scope of cross-LoC trade, the Chief Minister said a business delegation from J&K will soon visit Muzaf- farabad, for which the state is pursuing clearance with the Union Home Ministry. He said Full Body Scanners will be installed at the Trade Facilitation Centres at Salam- abad (Uri) and Chakan da Bagh (Poonch) for swift in-and-out movement of trucks, post secu- rity checks. The KCCI delegation was led by its President, Sheikh Ashiq. Fruit export: Veeri for better transport facilities GK NEWS NETWORK Srinagar, Sep 2: Minister for Hor- ticulture, Abdul Rehman Veeri Wednesday issued directions for facilitation of smooth transship- ment of fruit from the Valley to the markets outside the State. He directed the department concerned to deploy adequate number of trucks for the purpose, besides facilitating transship- ment by rail. Veeri was address- ing a joint meeting of fruit growers and transporters and state offi- cials. The meeting was aimed to ensure smooth transshipment of fruit from the Valley to the terminal markets. Underlying the importance of fruit industry in the state econ- omy, the Minister took brief of steps taken by the departments in this regard and stressed on facilitating the export of fruit in every respect to avoid any incon- venience to the fruit growers and the traders associated with this industry. Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production and Com- missioner Secretary Transport briefed the Minister on the mea- sures initiated and action taken to ensure smooth dispatch of fruit from the Valley. ‘To rebuild flood-hit infra, India must learn from PaK’ KEA asks PDP to break alliance with BJP; reiterates Sep 7 Kashmir Bandh JK Bank RE exams set to begin with a difference GK NEWS NETWORK Srinagar, Sep 2: As the countdown for J&K Bank’s prestigious recruitment test begins, Bank’s management and staff especially Human Resources Development Divi- sion are gearing themselves up to ensure smooth conduct of exams. Tens of thousands of candi- dates are scheduled to appear and compete in the exam for the posts of Relationship Exec- utives, the entry level in the Bank for the officers’ cadre. While the Bank has been conducting such tests in the past “with a great professional expertise and significant degree of success” through external agency, this year’s recruit- ment test is being referred to as ‘different and historic’ as it is for the first time the exams are being conducted through online mode in scores of centres spanned across the state. “It is a challenge that we are ready to face with dedication and professional excellence on scientific lines to ensure enhanced levels of efficiency, confidentiality and transpar- ency”, said Abdul Rauf Bhat, Senior President HRDD. He said, “To give the candi- dates an idea about the nature of test and a sense of the online exam-taking, the bank has shared a link of mock tests on the home page of its website www.jkbank.net. The site is witnessing tremendous traffic as hundreds of aspiring candi- dates have been accessing it to undertake mock tests.” Notably, initiatives by pro- fessionals in private capacity have also added to the Bank’s efforts of encouraging online mode by acquainting aspiring candidates with the online format. RISE APP, a test taking android application devel- oped and launched by RISE Institute, an initiative by IITians from J&K, has come in as a very useful source of preparation. The application was launched on 1st September and since then more than 1200 aspirants have downloaded the APP and attempted over 15,000 questions on it. The application provides students with 10-15 test papers daily. APP, like the Bank’s own mock test has been designed to ensure candidates are able to practice in an envi- ronment which will be almost same as the actual test. MUKEET AKMALI Srinagar, Sep 2: Hitting out at BJP-led government at the centre for “failing to provide rehabilita- tion package” to the flood sufferers here, Kashmir Economic Alliance on Tuesday stated that “India should learn from PaK how to rebuild disas- ter-hit economy and infrastructure.” “When floods hit Kashmir last year, PM Modi made lot of pas- sionate speeches on rehabilitating flood affected people, but on ground nothing has been done,” Chairman KEA, Showkat Chowdhary said at a press conference here. “Neither did he (the PM) allow any international help nor any foreign aid to come Kashmir. The result is that our economy is in dol- drums,” Chowdhary said, adding that “PM Modi must learn from PaK about how the international aid was allowed in that part of Kashmir, as a result of which “the quake-hit infra- structure was rebuild.” “PaK a divided part of Kashmir is an example before us that how international aid could rebuild our economy,” chairman KEA said. The KEA is an amalgam of various traders, transporters and hoteliers association said. Chowdhary also lambasted the coalition government in J&K for its “failure” to deliver on the ground. He said: “KEA since day one has been opposing this unnat- ural alliance. The PDP should break its alliance with BJP as the Kashmir centric party (PDP) has failed to get rehabilitation package from the centre headed by BJP.” KEA also flayed finance min- ister, Dr Haseeb Drabu for issuing “unreasonable” and “baseless” statements on rehabilitation pack- age. “The FM has developed a habit of issuing baseless statements about rehabilitation package. Every now and then he says that within 15 days or so, the centre government would announce the package. But every time it is a big farce.” KEA also reiterated its Kash- mir Bandh call for September 7 against government of India’s “failure to release rehabilitation package.” “All sectors of the economy will observe complete shutdown on Sep- tember 7. GoI has not released any substantial flood relief / rehabilita- tion package. We have no alterna- tive than to protest and make world community know how we are made to suffer, “said Chowdhary. Speaking on the occasion, Pres- ident KTMF, Muhammad Sadiq Baqal said they will observe com- plete shutdown to show the world that they are not happy with “GoI plan with Kashmir.” He said PM Modi announced Rs 1.25 lakh crore package for Bihar but ignored Kashmir where large scale devas- tation occurred due to floods. Chairman Houseboat Owners Association (HBOA) Muhammad Yousuf Chapri also spoke on the occasion. MUKEET AKMALI/SAQIB MALIK Srinagar, Sep 2: More than 20 trade unions in Kashmir Wednesday set out on a 24-hour strike to protest “anti-labour” policies of the government. The work remained affected in nationalized insur- ance companies, banks, Food Corporation of India and other central government public undertaking. The country-wide strike call was given by Centre of India Trade Unions (CITU) against “anti-worker policies” of BJP-led government at the centre. The trade union members held a sit-in at Lal Chowk here and later took out pro- test demonstration towards Regal Chowk which was dispersed by the Police. A pro- test demonstration was also held at FCI division office Hyderpora, here. The strikers demanded withdrawal of labour law amendments and sought a mini- mum wage of Rs.15,000/month. They also protested privatization of PSUs. The union representations said about 300 million work- ers across India were part of the strike. Perti - nently, Jammu and Kashmir Bank Officers had decided not to participate in the strike. Addressing protesting workers here, CITU State president M Y Tarigami took a dig at PDP-BJP alliance. “Governments cannot be run by dint of force; anti-people government will not last long, PDP-BJP gov- ernment should introspect,” Tarigami said. Tarigami said that “Ache Din” phrase coined by Prime Minister Narender Modi was actually meant for big corporate. The working class has never surfaced in priori- ties of the Prime Minister. Calling the strike a success, Muhammad Ayub, spokesperson of FCI Union here said a protest demonstration was held during lunch hours at FCI district office. Among those who took part in the strike included BKNK Sangh president Ali Muhammad Lala and its members. “BSNL though on strike had kept several of its payment counters open at Srinagar and Jammu,” Nisar Ahmad, Circle Secretary, BSNL Employees Union, J&K Division said. LIC Srinagar division employees remained on strike and participated in a rally. Hundreds of Centaur Hotel employees also participated in the demonstration. Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) State Secretary Abdul Gani Bhat said the center must ensure a speedy and fair imple- mentation of its schemes. Employee of SBI also participated in the strike. twitter.com/GreaterKashmir_ facebook.com/DailyGreaterKashmir epaper.GreaterKashmir.com BUSINESS

‘JK business delegation to soon visit Muzaffarabad’Mufti for branding Kashmir Handicraft

GK News NetworK

Srinagar, Sep 2: Stressing for branding 'Kashmir Handicraft', Chief Minister, Mufti Muham-mad Sayeed, today called for a concerted effort to overcome challenges in the global market-ing of hand-made products.

He said investors should take cue from the remarkable success of International Buyer-Seller meet held earlier this year that saw enquiries and online bookings reach a new high.

“Our products will continue to capture foreign markets if we sell genuine items with certified price tags,” he said, while laying stress on GI registration, an offi-cial statement said.

The Chief Minister said this while interacting with a delega-tion of KCCI here this afternoon.

Mufti said: “Our export-oriented handicraft products will sell like hot cakes, even in the wake of fierce competi-

tion, if we stick to globally-recognized benchmarks in originality and pricing.”

Expressing concern over markets swarming with fakes, the Chief Minister asked the del-egation to play its role in identi-fying persons who masquerade as sellers of genuine products, thus bringing a bad name to Kashmir handicraft industry.

Kashmir Expo-2015, which attracted business delegates from as many as 21 countries in the summer capital in May, saw sales worth USD 700,000

made in the first two days. On the issue of preserving

art of making handicraft prod-ucts like carpets, paper machie, shawls and wood work, Mufti said Government will make all-out efforts to promote the interests of artisans. “To make the activity economically viable for them, we will bring nearly 3.5 lakh artisans under the ambit of Artisan Credit Card Scheme, on the pattern of Kisan Credit Card that has seen farmers access soft loans worth Rs. 200 crore,” he stated.

Spelling out his plans to

broaden the scope of cross-LoC trade, the Chief Minister said a business delegation from J&K will soon visit Muzaf-farabad, for which the state is pursuing clearance with the Union Home Ministry.

He said Full Body Scanners will be installed at the Trade Facilitation Centres at Salam-abad (Uri) and Chakan da Bagh (Poonch) for swift in-and-out movement of trucks, post secu-rity checks.

The KCCI delegation was led by its President, Sheikh Ashiq.

Fruit export: Veeri for better transport facilities

GK News NetworK

Srinagar, Sep 2: Minister for Hor-ticulture, Abdul Rehman Veeri Wednesday issued directions for facilitation of smooth transship-ment of fruit from the Valley to the markets outside the State.

He directed the department concerned to deploy adequate number of trucks for the purpose, besides facilitating transship-ment by rail. Veeri was address-ing a joint meeting of fruit growers and transporters and state offi-cials. The meeting was aimed to ensure smooth transshipment of fruit from the Valley to the terminal markets.

Underlying the importance of fruit industry in the state econ-omy, the Minister took brief of steps taken by the departments in this regard and stressed on facilitating the export of fruit in every respect to avoid any incon-venience to the fruit growers and the traders associated with this industry.

Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production and Com-missioner Secretary Transport briefed the Minister on the mea-sures initiated and action taken to ensure smooth dispatch of fruit from the Valley.

JK Bank RE exams set to begin with a differenceGK News NetworK

Srinagar, Sep 2: As the countdown for J&K Bank’s prestigious recruitment test begins, Bank’s management and staff especially Human Resources Development Divi-sion are gearing themselves up to ensure smooth conduct of exams.

Tens of thousands of candi-dates are scheduled to appear and compete in the exam for the posts of Relationship Exec-utives, the entry level in the Bank for the officers’ cadre.

While the Bank has been

conducting such tests in the past “with a great professional expertise and significant degree of success” through external agency, this year’s recruit-ment test is being referred to as ‘different and historic’ as it is for the first time the exams are being conducted through online mode in scores of centres spanned across the state.

“It is a challenge that we are ready to face with dedication and professional excellence on scientific lines to ensure enhanced levels of efficiency, confidentiality and transpar-ency”, said Abdul Rauf Bhat, Senior President HRDD.

He said, “To give the candi-dates an idea about the nature of test and a sense of the online exam-taking, the bank has shared a link of mock tests on the home page of its website www.jkbank.net. The site is witnessing tremendous traffic as hundreds of aspiring candi-dates have been accessing it to undertake mock tests.”

Notably, initiatives by pro-fessionals in private capacity have also added to the Bank’s efforts of encouraging online mode by acquainting aspiring candidates with the online format.

RISE APP, a test taking

android application devel-oped and launched by RISE Institute, an initiative by IITians from J&K, has come in as a very useful source of preparation.

The application was launched on 1st September and since then more than 1200 aspirants have downloaded the APP and attempted over 15,000 questions on it. The application provides students with 10-15 test papers daily. APP, like the Bank’s own mock test has been designed to ensure candidates are able to practice in an envi-ronment which will be almost same as the actual test.

Srinagar, Sep 2: Hitting out at BJP-led government at the centre for “failing to provide rehabilita-tion package” to the flood sufferers here, Kashmir Economic Alliance on Tuesday stated that “India should learn from PaK how to rebuild disas-ter-hit economy and infrastructure.”

“When floods hit Kashmir last year, PM Modi made lot of pas-sionate speeches on rehabilitating flood affected people, but on ground nothing has been done,” Chairman KEA, Showkat Chowdhary said at a press conference here.

“Neither did he (the PM) allow any international help nor any foreign aid to come Kashmir. The result is that our economy is in dol-drums,” Chowdhary said, adding that “PM Modi must learn from PaK about how the international aid was allowed in that part of Kashmir, as a result of which “the quake-hit infra-structure was rebuild.”

“PaK a divided part of Kashmir is an example before us that how international aid could rebuild our economy,” chairman KEA said. The KEA is an amalgam of various traders, transporters and hoteliers association said.

Chowdhary also lambasted the coalition government in J&K for its “failure” to deliver on the ground. He said: “KEA since day one has been opposing this unnat-ural alliance. The PDP should break its alliance with BJP as the Kashmir centric party (PDP) has failed to get rehabilitation package from the centre headed by BJP.”

KEA also flayed finance min-ister, Dr Haseeb Drabu for issuing “unreasonable” and “baseless” statements on rehabilitation pack-age. “The FM has developed a habit of issuing baseless statements about rehabilitation package. Every now and then he says that within 15 days or so, the centre government would announce the package. But every time it is a big farce.”

KEA also reiterated its Kash-mir Bandh call for September 7 against government of India’s

“failure to release rehabilitation package.”

“All sectors of the economy will observe complete shutdown on Sep-tember 7. GoI has not released any substantial flood relief / rehabilita-tion package. We have no alterna-tive than to protest and make world community know how we are made to suffer, “said Chowdhary.

Speaking on the occasion, Pres-ident KTMF, Muhammad Sadiq Baqal said they will observe com-plete shutdown to show the world that they are not happy with “GoI plan with Kashmir.” He said PM Modi announced Rs 1.25 lakh crore package for Bihar but ignored Kashmir where large scale devas-tation occurred due to floods.

Chairman Houseboat Owners Association (HBOA) Muhammad Yousuf Chapri also spoke on the occasion.
