Subordinates: Director of Children’s Ministries, Assistant for Youth Ministry, and Audio & Visual Technical Assistant

Position Summary: Provides spiritual leadership, direction and oversight to the youth and family programs of Hope Lutheran Church; works closely in a partnership with ordained pastor(s) as well as lay staff members to develop a purposeful caring ministry for youth and their families; includes programs and activities that foster relational building among peer, adults and their church; encourage youth to grow in their faith and become partners in the mission of Hope Lutheran.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Planning:

1. Develops strategies to enhance and expand Youth & Family Ministries opportunities and needs.

2. Actively participates in ELCA youth activities, youth conferences, conventions and youth camp experiences; plans and implements youth retreats.

3. Participates in regular staff meetings to plan and coordinate youth programs and other areas of ministry.

4. Sets and maintains budget in areas relating to youth programs.

5. Organizes, leads, and teaches Confirmation classes.

6. Plans and coordinates opportunities for youth to actively participate in the life of the church, including worship services, special programs, seasonal events, and ongoing service ministries.

7. Develops opportunities for youth to be involved in service/mission projects in local and surrounding communities, and in special locations.

8. Oversees curriculum choices and teaching at junior high and high school levels of Sunday school.

9. Oversees staff responsible for the implementation of audio/visual equipment and its resources.

Administration:

1. Develops and implements regular communication channels for youth via newsletters, special mailings, special website and social media.

2. Submits written reports as directed by the Church Council.

3. Subscribes to the Constitution and By-Laws of Hope Lutheran Church.

Professional Relationships:

1. Manages youth staff and directs volunteers equipping them to be effective in their various and respective roles; evaluates, assigns, rewards and trains employees/volunteers in his/her span of control.

2. Collaborates with staff to ensure a cohesive plan for ministry to youth and families.

3. Implements strategies to reach the unchurched and to grow faithful devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Primary responsible for the teaching ministry of the youth so that the faith and love for the Savior may be strengthened.

4. Leads, inspires and trains the youth of the congregation in enlisting in active membership in the church, those people in the community who are not actively affiliated with a Christian congregation.

5. Strives in word and action to be a worthy example in Christian living, avoiding conduct which might endanger the faith of others.

6. Maintain communication with youth ministry leaders in the Synod.

7. Adheres to the guidelines of the policy on Communications and Media in Ministry.

8. Adheres to health, fire, and safety regulations of Hope Lutheran Church. Identifies safety hazards and reports them to the Parish Administrator.

9. Performs additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

1. Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in Divinity/Theology

2. Minimum three years experience working with youth or equivalent qualifying experience.

3. Strong leadership skills and ability to lead a team effectively.

4. Possession of a vibrant, intimate, personal relationship with Jesus and a passion for leading and encouraging youth in their relationship with Jesus.

5. Ability to manage time effectively.

6. Ability to effectively teach, possessing a variety of skills that can be adapted to various teaching environments, with special interest in spiritual formation and Bible study.

7. Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with those contacted in the course of youth ministry, both in oral and written form.

8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to operate a computer terminal, including strong proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Excel.

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met and encountered by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, an employee is required to frequently use hands and fingers and possess efficient means of communicating with others. Specific vision requirements include close vision. This is a sedentary job with no exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures. The noise level in this environment is low. Position Summary: Works closely and in partnership with the Lead Pastor as well as lay staff members to minister to members according to their needs. It is the responsibility of the Visitation Pastor Hope Lutheran Church to fulfill a calling and commitment to the Lord of the Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA), and the congregation. The Visitation Pastor will have supportive supervisory responsibility over lay volunteers assisting in ministering to homebound members of the congregation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Ministry:

1. In collaboration with the Lead Pastor, minister to homebound and shut-in members of the congregation according to their needs. This collaboration may include visitations to any member of the congregation that is sick or hospitalized or otherwise in need. Relates to congregation in as many ways as possible.

2. Oversee a corps of lay volunteers in recruitment and training of volunteers. Provide supervision of visitation to the homebound members of the congregation.

3. Provide additional support as requested by the lead pastor, when mutually agreed to by you and the lead pastor.

Planning:

1. Subscribes to the Constitution and By-Laws of the ELCA and the Constitution and By-Laws of Hope Lutheran Church.

2. Takes proactive role in ensuring his/her strong spiritual health and adherence to pastoral vows through prayer, regular contact with a spiritual advisor and participation in annual pastoral boundary training.

3. Participates actively in ongoing evaluation of Hope Lutheran Church ministry and its long-range strategic-planning process.

4. Supports strategies to reach the community, neighborhood and unchurched, to foster a welcoming environment, grow faithful and maintain devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

Administration:

1. Submits written reports as directed by the Church Council.

2. Communicates with the congregation through electronic medium and annually via the annual report.

Professional Relationships:

1. Works closely with the Lead Pastor and with the chairpersons of his/her assigned ministry teams.

2. Provides guidance and assistance to the Monday Ministers in the pastoral care needs of the congregation, visitor follow up and general outreach ministry to the congregation.

3. Pursues continuing education experiences for self-improvement and opportunities that would be of benefit to the congregation.

4. Adheres to health, fire, and safety regulations of Hope Lutheran Church. Identifies safety hazards and reports them to the Parrish Administrator.

5. Performs additional duties requested by Church Council.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

1. Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in Divinity/Theology.

2. Rostered in good standing as a clergyperson with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America or in a church body with whom the ELCA shares a full communion partnership.

3. Minimum of two (2) years successful experience in ordained ministry.

4. Through word and action, ability to serve as a worthy example of Christian living.

5. Possession of a vibrant, intimate, personal relationship with Jesus and a passion for the unchurched and hurting people of the community.

6. Ability to be an effective supporter for the Lutheran (ELCA) understanding of the Christian faith; has an ecumenical perspective on ministry, and the ability to communicate and to practice that we are all partners in ministry.

7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
