Understanding VideoEarliest exposure to Video is the Flip Book

Each picture is a frame. The flip tricks the eye into perceiving motion if the book is flipped fast enough

Video is a collection of still images presented at speed. The images can have different sizes (resolution) and speed. These are called Codecs

Digital Video is 29.7 Frames/Sec. Many Screen Capture reduce this to 15 Frames/Sec to reduce size of the video.

How Video will enhance your job

One picture is worth a thousand words. A video is worth more.

People that do not take notes always have the same issues come back with the same questions. These will have a new reference source.

Record presentations, formal training and Lunch & Learns.

How Video will enhance your job

When doing multiple presentations the video will insure uniform content delivery.

A Standards Library reference source. “How to do things to conform.”

Use video to practice and time your presentations. Even if not using the video this can be an aid in preparing and practicing the presentation for live delivery.

Use video editing techniques

Editing is an art rather than a science. The last person to touch the video before it is seen is the Editor

The choice of scenes, music and tempo sets the mood and improves the comprehension of the video.

Proper editing will keep the audience’s attention, bad editing will lose the audience.

Building the On-Line Video Training Library1. Determine the Video Codec appropriate to your

company’s hardware. (File size and Speed)

2. Create a location on a server and standardize the directory structure. Advertise this location.

Place links on Intranet

Place in your email signaturePromote in Classes

3. IT departments are sensitive to bandwidth caused by streaming media, Advise viewers to copy videos to their computer before watching.

4. Keep a backup copy (for accidents)

Quick tips to produce quality video.

Use Tight Shots – Don’t display the entire desktop application if a good close up will provide more information. This will improve the quality of the presentation, keep user interest up and save everyone’s eyes.

Save and Save often. Video is fickle. The current editors are much more stable however if you don’t save you gamble in losing a lot of work.

Record short scenes. Long recordings require more editing time.
