Worth Seeing ÖTZI'S PLACE OF FINDING On 19 September 1991 two German tourists found by chance a mummi- fied corpse in the ice of the Similaun glacier at the Hauslabjoch moun- tain ridge. "Ötzi" the iceman was found at an altitude of 3,200m and is the most ancient finding of a European hunter. VENT JAKOBUSKIRCHE The Baroque-style church is consecrated to Saint Jacob the Elder. HOHLER STEIN & STONE AGE HUNTING BASE The existence of Stone Age hunting bases in the Ötztal valley is proven, e.g. in the Hohler Stein area in Niedertal/Vent which is at an altitude of 2,050 m. A wide range of archeological findings within this area show the existence of early settlements in the Rofental valley, dating back to 7600 B.C. The outdoor excavation site is located on a small natural terrace at 1,950 m above sea level, where Niedertal valley and Rofental valley meet. In the past, these two valleys formed the natural border line of the huge hunting areas reaching up to the mighty peaks of the main Alpine ridge. SUSPENSION BRIDGE & ROFEN GORGE The breathtaking suspension bridge (46m long, 31 m deep) was built by the Klotz brothers in 1967 and renewed in 2006. GB Vent Resort Information Summer Ötztal. Less experienced hikers are well advised to enlist the services of a certified mountain guide! Glacier crossings are only possible with rope and in a group. Before setting out on a tour you should always inform someone about your destination and when you plan to be back.
