Living a happy life is something that everyone wants to achieve. Even if you have millions of

dollars in your bank account, without happiness, life will seem meaningless. By living happy,

we have already achieved success. So how can we find happiness? How can we find

success?

The power we have is in our minds. In the previous article, I mentioned that the only

difference between the successful and the mediocre is the mind. As human beings, we are

all equipped with a powerful brain, which separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom.

How we use it is dependent on choice and not chance. How we react to a situation and

produce an outcome is also dependent on choice. A psychotherapist from Los Angeles

named Dr. Robert Resnick has a very simple equation for this, E + R = O. This equation is

brilliant, as it is designed to help us take full responsibility for everything that is happening

in our lives.

It also clearly shows one of the key differences between successful people and the rest of

the world. E stands for event, R for response and O for outcome.

Event – In life, there are many events that happen which are not within our control. It could

be something positive, such as meeting the love of your life or getting a huge bonus. It could

be something negative, such as losing your wallet or having an accident. It could be simple

and small, or it could be something drastic. We may influence future events, but nothing is

full-proof, as even the most rigid planning could go wrong due to unforeseen circumstances.

Let’s face it, we do not really have full control over events that take place in our lives. I know

that this may sound negative and depressing, but this is only the first part of the equation.

Response – Though we may not have control over events happening in our lives, we do have

control over the way we respond to it. Hypothetically, if you forgot to bring your wallet

when you left the house this morning, how would you respond? Do you mentally beat

yourself up due to the frustration and anger? Do you do nothing and just let it be, or do you

start making plans to enjoy your day without having to spend a single cent? Everything we

do after the event is a response. Even the way we perceive the event is a response. Some

people see an opportunity, while many others see a failure.

Outcome – The outcome is the result of our action. Whether it is positive or negative

depends on to the response to the event. If you end up in an argument with your spouse,

whether you choose to escalate or de-escalate the situation will result in an outcome. When

it has ended, whether you choose to use this argument as an opportunity to better

understand your loved one, or use it as further ammunition for any future arguments, will

also determine a certain outcome to your relationship.

Through this basic equation, E + R = O, we have learned that we can always control our

response to any given event and influence the outcome. The question is how do we control

our response? How do we know that it is positive? The answer is simple. FOCUS. Whatever

you focus on will give you an interpretation (meaning) of the event. This interpretation will

generate a certain emotion, thus influencing your response, and ultimately, your results.

Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have

probably seen him on YouTube, or heard of his seminars. Despite being different from the

other kids, his parents chose to love him the way he is. His mum once said “I wouldn’t

change him”, and his father further said that “He will have quite a good life”.

Despite the fact that his parents loved him, one can imagine the challenges he faced when

he went to school. Kids are not as tactful and sensitive as adults. As such, Nick was

ostracized and eventually suffered from depression and loneliness.

He started to question the purpose of life, and whether or not he even had one. There were

many questions, but no answers. Depression started to set in, and at the age of ten, he

decided to end his own life by drowning himself in a bathtub. Thankfully, that didn’t

happen, as he realized that he should not disappoint his loved ones.

This is because he started to trust in God, and was given lots of love and support by his

friends and family members. He started to focus on what he could do, versus what he

couldn’t, and on what he has, not what he does not.

This is also the reason for his motto: “No Arms, No Legs, No Limits!”

This mind set, strength, and passion have propelled Nick to be a world-class motivational

speaker who has inspired millions around the globe. He has already accomplished more in

his thirties than most people achieve in a lifetime.

Just type “Nick Vujicic” into YouTube and you will be able to see him golfing, diving,

swimming, fishing, and riding a horse, among many others.

In addition, he is happily married with two adorable kids. Can you imagine that?

Where can you find your strength and passion? It could be in your faith, it could be love, or

even a goal in life? It can be anything.

ACTIVITY 1 (2 Mins)

Below is a simple activity which I strongly encourage you to do. Simply take out a pen and

follow the instructions. The only way to fully understand the lesson is to really write it down,

as there is a difference between knowing the answers and physically jotting it down.

For the moment, let’s forget Nick Vujicic’s story. Take a deep breath, and clear all feelings or

thoughts that you may have. Have a blank and neutral mind before proceeding.

In this activity, we will see the effects of focusing on the negatives and positives of an event.

Imagine that you are were born without arms and legs. What are 10 things that you cannot

do/accomplish, or do not have, due to your disability? Please list them below.

Now, please take a deep breath and clear your mind once more. Have a blank and neutral

mind before proceeding to the next list.

If there are two versions of Nick Vujicic in this world, one who always recalls the negative

list, while the other positive, who do you think will live a happier life? Who do you think can

succeed and accomplish more? Can you see the huge difference we can make just by

changing our focus? Yes, sometimes it may be easier said than done. But if you only have 2

choices: (a) Choose to Focus on what you have, (b) Choose to focus on what you don’t have,

which will you choose?

Focus -> Meaning -> Emotions -> Response -> Results

Regardless of the event, whether good or bad, when you focus on the positives, you

respond positively and deliver a similarly positive outcome. Focus on what you have and

what you can do, and always remember the basics, E + R = O.

She is often called the most powerful and most influential woman in the world.

Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954, in rural Mississippi. Despite the success that

she has today, Oprah had a very traumatic childhood. When she was young, she was

sexually abused by male relatives and by age 14, she was pregnant. She hid the pregnancy

until the baby was born. She was then taken to a detention home.

While the home was processing her application, she knew that all those girls who had come

to detention home were labelled as “Bad Girls”. In her mind, she felt that she had become

one of them, but deep inside her heart, she felt that she was not a “Bad Girl”. The juvenile

detention home, however, rejected her admission, because all the beds were taken. So, she

was made to stay with her father, and in her own words, it was her “Saving Grace”.

After she gave birth to a child, the child died a few months later. Her father said to Oprah

“This is your second chance. This is your opportunity to seize this moment and make

something out of your life”.

And she did!

Oprah Winfrey went on in life facing many difficulties and challenges, including being

demoted from her job as a news anchor because she “was not fit for television”. Despite the

setbacks, she fought on and became one of the biggest names in television history. Doing

what she loves, she has inspired millions of people around the world and changed countless

lives.

Sadly, there are many people in this world who grow up with a difficult childhood. As victims

of violence and abuse, many of them grow up not fitting well in society. Can you guess what

made Oprah different? Can you imagine what will happen if Oprah Winfrey saw herself as a

victim from then until now? Would she still be who she is today?

Where we are today is directly linked to the choices we made in the past. How your future

will be is dependent on the choices you make and the actions you take today. Whenever

you are feeling down and out, remember there are people out there who are going through

a lot worse. It doesn’t matter what event you are facing, it matters how you respond to it.

I recently read an article about Haseena Hussain.

She was an attractive, intelligent, upwardly mobile young woman in Bangalore, India, with a

very bright future to look forward to. At only 18 years old, she had completed a computer

course while studying for the Bachelor of Commerce degree. She even got a job at a

software company ran by a former Indian Air Force employee, Joseph Rodriguez.

Page 13: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

©DRTransformation.com | 13

It didn’t take long before her boss was attracted to her and asked her to marry him. She

rejected him, even though he kept persisting. A short while later, due to unforeseen

circumstances, the company got into some financial difficulties and started to incur losses.

Haseena decided the best move for her was to leave the company and find another job

elsewhere. Joseph wanted her to continue working for him at a new computer setup

company at his house, and she rejected his advances again.

However, Joseph kept pestering her. He simply refused to believe that she could choose to

work for another company over his. Haseena rejected him and started her new job. This

made Joseph furious and he threatened her. 20 days later, Haseena’s world turned dark

when Joseph attacked, splashing two liters of concentrated sulfuric acid on her.

She was only 18 years old when the corrosive liquid burned her face, eyes, neck, chest,

hands and legs. The attack caused her skin to melt, permanently blinding her, and leaving

her in excruciating pain.

When Haseena was finally sent to a government hospital for treatment, her body was

already 70% burned. Her condition was so serious that the doctors said she that didn't have

much of a chance. “I couldn’t bear the pain,” she recalls.

She underwent over 35 surgeries, spending more than a year in hospital, living on a liquid

diet. “I was emotionally, physically and financially broke. It was a vacuum. I didn’t know

what will happen. I was tired of it,” she recalls.

When she returned home, Haseena was permanently scarred, blind, couldn’t walk, and had

limited mobility due to her injuries. She also received many negative comments from people

who visited. People would ask her parents, “Why did you bring her home? You should have

poisoned her in the hospital. How will she live her life like this?”

Page 14: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

©DRTransformation.com | 14

Thankfully, her parents supported her and rebutted by saying, “Why should my daughter

suffer when it’s not her fault? If someone has to suffer it should be the culprit.”

The culprit was caught and eventually sentenced to a lifetime of imprisonment. But for

Haseena, life will never be the same. She can no longer lead a normal life, and the impact of

the attack has been devastating to both her and her family. They had to sell their house and

empty all their savings to pay for the medical bills.

Haseena will face discrimination daily due to her disfigurement, and have learn to live

without her eyesight, as well as multiple disabilities. Many acid attack victims have resorted

to suicide, as not many people can bear having their entire life has been destroyed.

It was her family’s unconditional love that helped her to recover emotionally and physically.

After visiting courts and hospitals for years, she decided on a new direction for her life. She

joined an institution for the visually impaired, learned computer programming and other

skills. She wanted to be independent again.

After much training, she decided to apply for a job. The attack badly affected her hands,

making them weak, but with constant practice on a typewriter, she was able to apply for

and get a job as a stenographer in a government department. Today, she supports her

entire family on the salary she earns. She also actively motivates other acid victims, inspiring

them not to give up and to live a more positive life. She has even inspired (non-acid

attacked) suicidal women to not give up on life.

Acid attacks are horrible and devastating. It is a terrible event and not many people get to

move past it to restart their lives. Hundreds have resorted to suicide or hiding themselves in

their homes for the rest of their lives. But Haseena is different, she is a person who has

found inner strength and has become a hero to many women around the world. No matter

how bad the event is, we can’t change the past. But we do have a choice when it comes to

shaping the future. Haseena would like to tell all the women that, even after a horrific

attack like the one she suffered, you can still find ways to lead a happy life.

In this chapter, we have learnt the basics of E + R = O, and that, regardless of the events

presented to us, we can always make the best out of it to lead happy and successful lives. By

focusing on the positives, opportunities will present themselves. Nothing is impossible in

this world.

Chapter 2: The Power Of The Human Brain

Page 16: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

We have learned in the previous chapter that we can take charge of our lives by simply

focusing on the positives and possibilities. In this chapter, we will talk about the power of

our thoughts.

Did you know that our brain is our greatest gift from nature, that it separates us from the

rest of the animals in the animal kingdom? It comes with a huge outer grey segment that is

called the Cerebral Cortex (the largest segment of our brain). This segment is the area that

enables us to visualize and perform higher brain functions, such as thoughts and actions.

It also allows us to think “future” based, and is where creativity and innovation originates. It

gives us the edge over all the other animals, and enables us humans to rule this world,

producing many amazing feats such as making fire, creating tools, discovering and using

electricity, building an empire, etc. Without it, it is arguable that we might even become

extinct as we have very frail bodies with few natural ways to defend ourselves.

This is a precious and a very powerful gift. By leveraging it, we can perform beyond our

physical limitations.

To understand the power of visualization and our minds, an Australian Psychologist named

Alan Richardson conducted an experiment with three groups of students. He first tested

each student’s ability to make free throws with a basketball and recorded the results. After

recording the original baseline, the different groups were tasked with the following for

twenty days:

1) Group one was instructed to practice free throws every day for twenty

minutes.

2) Group two will only visualize themselves making the free throws. No real

practice was allowed.

3) Group three was the control group and did nothing.

After twenty days, all three groups were asked to make free throws with a basketball again,

while Alan Richardson recorded their individual results.

Page 17: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

©DRTransformation.com | 17

Surprisingly, these were the results:

Group One (Practice Group) – Improved by 24% Group Two (Visualizing Only Group) – Improved by 23%

Group Three (Group that did nothing) – Made no improvement

23%! The visualizing group were almost as good as those who physically practiced making

free throws daily! More research has shown that anyone who can visualize a certain physical

skill somehow can develop “muscle memory,” which helps that person engage in that same

physical activity.

Other experiments have also been conducted with results backing Alan Richardson’s

findings. Visualization today has also become a tool / technique used by professional

athletes to perform at their peak. They will visualize an entire race in their heads repeatedly

before taking part in it. This will condition their minds to think that they have completed the

race multiple times.

Visualization is almost as powerful as the real thing, given that your brain cannot really tell

the difference between something real or imagined. By visualizing a successful race, new

neural paths will be formed and existing neural paths that aid in the accomplishment of the

activity will be strengthened. Therefore, when the actual race begins, these athletes will

shine.

“What You Think About, You Bring About” ~ Chuck Danes

ACTIVITY 3 (VISUALIZATION)

Here is a simple activity to demonstrate how your mind can influence your body, and

ultimately, even get you results.

STEP 1

Stand up with your eyes open and both hands pointing out.

STEP 2 Swing your body clockwise without moving your feet. Imagine a laser beam shooting out of

your right finger and burning a line on the wall.

Page 18: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

©DRTransformation.com | 18

STEP 3

Twist to your maximum and take note of the end-point on the wall on which your laser

beam stops.

STEP 4

Return to your original standing position without moving your legs.

STEP 5 Close your eyes and imagine that your waist is flexible. It is like a rubber band that can

always twist a little further. Repeat the first 3 steps in your mind, but let it go a little further,

bit by bit, until your laser is pointing 1 meter farther than the original point.

STEP 6 Open your eyes and repeat the first three steps.

Do you notice you can actually stretch farther? How is that possible when you’ve already

stretched to the maximum during the first attempt? The truth is, we are usually limited by

our thoughts. We think that we are at our limits and can’t do any better. But, in reality, we

can always go much further. By using your imagination in step 5, you are conditioning your

mind to think that you have been there and done that.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Besides having the amazing Cerebral Cortex, we human beings are also mammals and have

another segment in our brains called the Limbic System (aka mammalian brain). This

segment is responsible for our emotions, behavior and long-term memory. Historically, this

brain is much older and existed thousands of years before the Cerebral Cortex was formed.

It has served mammals well, and is responsible for survival behavior.

The final segment of our brain is known as the reptilian brain. It is the most ancient of the

three segments, and controls the body’s vital functions, such as breathing, heart rate and

body temperature. It is also responsible for our survival instincts. It decides whether you

move to fight or flee. One of its major roles for us is to protect us (self-preservation).

The more ancient the segment of our brain is, the deeper it is embedded. For example, a

part of the Mammalian brain known as the Amygdala processes things faster than the

thought segment of the Cerebral Cortex. This is why we are more influenced by emotions

than logic.

Page 19: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

©DRTransformation.com | 19

For example, when a joke strikes someone as

hilarious, the laughter will be explosive even if

the joke didn’t make any logical sense. On the

down side, when the Amygdala is threatened,

that person can react illogically and violently. It

acts before any direction can be given by the

thinking brain. This is known as Amygdala

Hijack.

However, you might notice that the limbic

system has the power to override our reptilian

brain (in terms of self-preservation) for the

greater good of the group. Likewise, the

Cerebral Cortex has power to override / control

our limbic system (emotions) if we learn how to

use it. When you find yourself losing your

emotional state, pause and take a deep breath

to allow time for your thinking brain to do its

work. Focus on the positives. Never lose your

emotional state!

Back in the early 1970s, Richard Bandler (a psychology student in the University of California

Santa Cruz) was transcribing a taped therapy session by Gestalt Therapist Fritz Perls. He

found certain patterns of Perls’ language increased its acceptance by clients. Bandler

brought his findings to John Grinder (a linguist), and they produced the “Meta Model”.

The pair subsequently modelled it after 3 extraordinary therapists: Fritz Perls

(Psychotherapist), Virginia Satir (Family Therapist), and Milton Erickson (Hypnotherapist),

uncovering the patterns of human excellence.

They reviewed hours of audio and video of these three, and spent months imitating how

they worked with clients in an attempt to replicate or ‘model’ the communication patterns

which made these individuals more successful than their peers. While the style and

approach of each of these therapists appeared different, Bandler and Grinder believed that

all experts in human communication (including Perls, Satir and Erickson) have patterns in

common that could be learned by others.

Bandler and Grinder didn’t stop there, but went on to identify what achievers in other fields

(business, sports, education, health etc.) had in common. They claimed that there were a

few common traits that expert communicators – whether they were top therapists,

executives or salespeople – all seemed to share. This is when NLP was born.

Both of their initial discoveries were recorded in four books between 1975 and 1977. The

books were called “The Structure of Magic I & II”, “Patterns I & II”, and 2 books on Erickson’s

hypnotherapy work. NLP then evolved into 2 complementary directions: 1) As a process to

discover the patterns of excellence in any field, 2) As an effective way of thinking and

communicating by outstanding individuals.

So, what exactly is NLP?

NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Let me explain NLP using an analogy.

Page 22: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

If you look at the above picture, can you tell me what it is? Obviously, it’s a traffic light.

What is the color of the traffic light then? You will tell me that it’s red!

How do you know that it’s red and not some other color? You may get a bit frustrated right

now because I am asking you some silly questions.

Here’s the point. You know it’s a traffic light and it’s red because you see it. If I am

explaining this to you right now over Skype, you will also be able to hear me. As a normal

human being, we have our 5 senses - what we see (visual), what we hear (auditory), what

we feel (kinesthetic), what we smell (olfactory) and what we taste (gustatory). The process

where we gather such information and then processes it is known as Neuro, the N of NLP.

So, my next question is what does a red traffic light mean to you as a driver? Obviously, it

means to stop the vehicle. But who taught you that a red light means stop? We could have

learned it from schools, our parents, the traffic police, or many various sources.

If you show the picture of the red traffic light to a baby, will the baby know what it means?

Of course not! This is because the baby has not learned what a red traffic light means. This

also means that only when the baby grows up, and starts learning, that this baby will know

what a red traffic light means.

The process where we give meaning (using words that we understand) to things that we

see, hear, feel, smell or taste, is called Linguistic. This will be the L in NLP.

When this baby grows up to become an adult, and he starts to learn how to drive, and gets

his driving license, he will eventually be so good at driving that he is totally unaware of the

need to identify the red traffic light and its meaning.

The process of training or conditioning your mind and body such that you can perform the

task that you want is called Programming. That’s the P in NLP.

In short, NLP is how you can make your mind think, condition it to think in a certain way,

and thus behave in a certain way to achieve the results that you want. In terms of applying

NLP into our real life to produce results, you need to know the 5 Principles for Success

1. Goal - Having a SMART Goal (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Line)

2. Action – Taking massive action towards the Goal

3. Awareness - Be mindful whether are you heading towards or have deviated from your

goal

4. Adaptable – Sometimes things don’t turn out the way we want, we should be flexible

enough to alter our strategies.

5. State – Maintain a positive and peak emotional state

*Note: Principles followed by an asterisk are not “traditional” NLP.

NLP Communication Model

NLP Epistemology (i.e. How we

know what we know)

F1 Transform – are neurological

transformers that convert data from the

sensory receptors to cortical projections.

F1 transform are pre-conscious.

First Access – is the point we first gain

access to the transformed in/outs from

the external world. We refer to this as

Experience

F2 Transform – is the process of coding the sensory-

based FA representation. So, we map data at FA

onto our internal maps, made up of pictures,

sounds and feelings, and natural language

hierarchies.

Linguistic Representation – is the internal linguistic

map which has been subjected to F2 Transform and

is presented using natural language.

Page 24: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

Here’s a simplified explanation of the NLP Communication Model. When an event takes

place, we receive the information through our five sensors (Eyes, ears, nose, etc.). This

process is known as F1 Transform. Our brain will begin to receive the information from our

sensors as signals and interpret it. This is known as First Access (Note: No meaning has been

attached to the event yet).

F2 Transform is where the information will get “Deleted”,” Distorted” and “Generalized”

based on your memories, decisions, values, beliefs, attitudes etc. This is where a meaning

(either positive or negative) is attached to the event. This meaning is the perception of the

event, we call it Linguistic Representation, which affects our emotional state, physiology and

ultimately behavior.

In short: We receive information > Delete Distort and Generalize based on Past Experience +

Values & Beliefs etc. + Focus > Emotion > Response + Body Language > Outcome

Based on the model, how can you make a difference in your life? The most basic method is

to change your focus. The F2 Transform process will happen naturally for everyone and is

unavoidable. Information will get deleted, distorted and generalized. But we can always

shift our focus and give new meaning to the event. Making it positive will mean a positive

emotion, response and outcome. You can achieve all these simply by changing your focus.

A very good way to practice focusing on the positives is to practice gratitude. By being

grateful, we focus on the things we have, instead of being resentful for the things we don’t

have. It is the first step to happiness, which in turn is our ultimate goal. Have you noticed

that the happiest people around you are those who are the most grateful?

“Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you

don't have, you will never, ever have enough.” ~ Oprah Winfrey.

Other impactful ways to make a change in your life are:

1. By releasing your past negative baggage.

2. By identifying what is important in your life.

3. Removing any limiting beliefs.

(In subsequent chapters, we will work on these three things)

Page 25: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

ACTIVITY 4 (2 MINS) (GRATITUDE)

Tonight, before heading to bed, list 5 things in your mind for which you are grateful. In the

morning before getting out of bed, list another 5 things for which you are grateful. Repeat

this activity for the next 30 days and you will begin to see a huge change in your life.

Remember, there will always be something for which to be grateful, regardless of how bad

your day was. It doesn’t matter, as long as you are grateful.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Understanding the basics - E + R = O and NLP Communications Model - are invaluable in

your journey to success. This explains why various people react to the same scenario

differently, and how their reactions affect the outcome and results. Another important NLP

tool is the Presuppositions of NLP. NLP Presuppositions are the “Belief System” of those

Genius Performers (names by John Grinder) used to obtain Personal Mastery.

The Presuppositions of NLP (Personal Mastery)

1. Take Full Responsibility For Anything That Happens To Us

In life, it is very easy to push the blame to others. But in doing so, we are giving away

our power to decide for our own lives. Regardless of the event, you are always in

charge of your response, and therefore, your results. Take ownership and take

charge of your life.

2. There Are No Unresourceful People, Only Unresourceful Emotional States

You can lose everything except your emotional state. As human beings, we are

naturally resourceful and can always find the solution to any given problem. You just

need to know where to look. The moment you lose your emotional state, all these

doors to opportunities and answers will close as you begin to push the blame to

another party, or even worse, give up altogether.

3. There Is No Failure, Only Feedback.

Every failure is only a lesson for your success.

'I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.' ~ Thomas Edison

Page 26: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

4. Be Highly Adaptable And Flexible

Practice flexibility in all your endeavors. If one way doesn’t work, try a different way.

Einstein once said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but

expecting a different result.”

5. Everything We Do To Should Increase Wholeness (Be Congruent)

Ensure that everything you do or decide is aligned with your own values. (Example: If

you are a vegetarian by choice but run a multi-million-dollar animal slaughter house,

you will not be happy, regardless of how much money you are making.)

6. Everything We Do Should Be Designed To Increase Choices

Ensure that everything you do or decide to do will increase opportunities for

yourself. Avoid options that limit your choices, opportunities, and yourself.

Muhammad Ali is one of the greatest heavyweight boxers in sporting history. He is the only

three-time linear World Heavyweight Champion. He was nicknamed “The Greatest,” and he

was involved in multiple historic boxing matches.

His speed is legendary; he would effortlessly dodge attacks from his opponents in the ring.

He has beaten some of the best boxers of all time, such as the legendary Archie Moore, who

had over 200 previous fights to his name.

On February 6, 1967, there was a fight between Ali and Ernie Terrell, in what was one of the

ugliest fights in boxing history. The worst thing that could have happened is for Ali to be

called by his former "slave" name, “Cassius Clay”, but Terrell kept using it. Ali treated the

name-calling as an insult, as he had previously said that “Cassius Clay” is a slave name and

he didn’t want it. He wanted to be called “Muhammad Ali”, which means beloved of God.

He also said that he would punish Terrell for this insult. During the match, Ali kept shouting

to his opponent, “What’s my name? What’s my name?” The match ended with 15 rounds of

brutal punishment, without a knock out. Many have speculated that Ali preferred to further

punish Terrell than end the fight in a knockout.

If you’re a fan of Muhammad Ali, you will have watched many of his fight videos. You will

know the power and skills he possessed. The question is, would you dare fight a titan like

him? Even if you are deemed a professional boxer, would you challenge him during his

prime?

Chuck Wepner is a professional boxer from Bayonne, New Jersey. He was considered an

underdog who seemed to have “fragile skin” with an alarming propensity to cut, and

earning him the nickname “The Bayonne Bleeder”. Throughout his career, Wepner received

over 300 cuts to his face – 79 alone in a three-round defeat to George Foreman. Regardless,

Wepner still loved to fight.

In 1975, Chuck Wepner did the unthinkable. He challenged the great Muhammad Ali to a

fight in the ring. To everyone’s surprise, Muhammad Ali agreed to give him a shot at the

title. Many believed that Ali would knock him out after a few rounds. Some gave the odds

against Wepner 40 to 1.

Wepner wasn’t as fortunate as Ali. He had to work a day job throughout his life. He was a

salesman and trained whenever he had the time. Before the match with Ali, Wepner never

had proper full-time training. Preparation for the big match was the first time he went to

training camp in his career. He trained just for seven weeks. Even with the odds against him,

Wepner chose to believe that he could win. It wasn’t simply just doing his best in the fight,

he believed that he could stand up against the great Muhammad Ali and make history.

Page 29: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

The fight began and Wepner immediately leapt into action and was consistently in the fight.

I was trying to get him out of his fight plan,

and the only way I could do that is to really

piss him off. So, I went right after him, I

pressed him and threw shots to the body and

shots to the head. Round Two came and I

continued to press him. But he kept talking,

he never stopped talking. ‘Come on, let me

see what you got!’ recalled Wepner.

Muhammad Ali did not attack much and chose instead to taunt Wepner, while blocking and

parrying. By Round Seven, Ali started opening up by throwing jabs at Wepner. This resulted

with a gash right above Wepner’s eye. Wepner was exhausted from the past rounds, while

the younger and more talented champ was still full of energy. Regardless, Wepner persisted

and never gave up.

Page 30: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

The bell rang for Round Nine and Wepner got up from his corner. Ali started throwing big

jabs at Wepner; but he managed to slip under one and return with a powerful right swing at

Ali’s ribs, just below the heart. Pow! Muhammad Ali fell to the ground, and the crowd went

berserk! The fans, everyone was in shock! They began yelling, “Keep him down, Chuck! Keep

him down!”

The crowd's energy changed because suddenly the little guy got a chance. “Chuck hit him

with a body shot and knocked him down, and I said, “Oh my God, Chuck’s going to be the

champion of the world!” recalled Artie Stock.

In the entire career of Muhammad Ali, this was his third time only that he got knocked

down. “Here’s the greatest in the world and he just gets flatten by the Bayonne Bleeder!

How embarrassing is that!” recalled Gary Braverman.

If you find this story familiar, but have never heard of Chuck Wepner, you may be recalling

the movie “Rocky”. It tells of a similar story of the underdog lead character “Rocky”

(Sylvester Stallone) taking on the world champ. It was only recently revealed that the script

“Rocky” was allegedly inspired by Chuck Wepner’s fight with Muhammad Ali. That movie

became a huge success and brought Stallone to stardom.

Muhammad Ali won the match that night. He was angered by the knock down and

pummeled Wepner the rest of the fight. But regardless the number of blows he received,

Wepner kept on going and didn’t give up. The referee finally ended the fight with only

nineteen seconds to go on the Fifteenth Round. The fight had ended, but history was

written. Wepner may have lost the fight, but he was remembered as one of the few men,

and the only underdog, who knocked down the World Champion - Muhammad Ali.

If you could have the opportunity to fight Muhammad Ali, do you think you would have a

chance? Do you believe that you could knock him out? If Chuck Wepner didn’t think he

could win, would he have been able to survive the fifteen rounds with the Champion?

Would he even have come close to knocking him down?

Sometimes in life, we may face challenges that seem so huge that it is insurmountable. It

feels as though you are putting yourself in the ring with Muhammad Ali. The whole world

seems to be against you and the chance of emerging victorious seems impossible. Well, one

man faced the challenge head on, and his name is Chuck Wepner. He believed he could do It

and he didn’t allow anyone to change his mind.

If you have a choice between living a life with big dreams or small dreams, which one would

you choose? If you have chosen small dreams, will you be happy and live a fulfilling life? If

you have chosen big dreams, do you think the journey will be easy or difficult? All big

dreams come with challenges. The bigger the dream, the bigger the challenge. But everyone

who faced the challenges and refused to give up will tell you that it is worth it. Life is short,

so don’t waste it. You will gain from both the journey, as well as the destination. So, dream

big and don’t sell yourself short.

Recently, one of my favorite actors gave a speech about his secrets to success. In his early

days, his dream was to become a world champion bodybuilder in America. It wasn't just

about being a bodybuilder, he wanted to be the very best of them.

As a young Austrian who spoke little English, this dream was by no means easy. He had to go

A.W.O.L from basic military training in Austria to take part in a bodybuilding competition,

which resulted with him spending a week in a military prison. He proceeded to participate in

other bodybuilding competitions to pave the way for his first goal, to win the Mr. Universe

title. The title was his ticket to America.

Sadly, he came in second place when he lost to Chester Yorton in 1966. However, one of the

judges was so impressed that he offered to coach him. This gave him another opportunity to

train harder and ultimately win the Mr. Universe title in 1967. He would eventually proceed

to win the title another three times, achieving his dream of being the very best bodybuilder

in the world.

After achieving his first dream, he began to pursue his second with the same kind of passion

and drive, which was to be a world-famous actor. It didn’t take him long to achieve this, as

he soon became a huge superstar in Hollywood.

Being a man with many ambitions, he then ventured into politics to become the Governor of

California. This man is non-other than Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger. There’s an interesting

fact recently shared by bodybuilding trainer Joe Weider when he revealed that Arnold will

always achieve each goal systematically and without fail.

As a man with much success, Arnold has the following secrets to share for anyone who

wants to achieve their dreams, and to be the very best that they can be.

Page 32: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

Arnold Schwarzenegger's 6 Rules Of Success:

1. TRUST YOURSELF

Arnold advised that you need to have a vision of who you want to be, and not what others

expect you to be. He knew that all along, he wanted to be the greatest bodybuilder of all

time. However, his parents wanted a different dream for him. They wanted him to be like

his father – to become a Police Officer. They also wanted him to marry a girl and to have a

bunch of children, like any other typical family. But Arnold wanted to leave Austria to go to

America. He strongly believes that we have to trust in ourselves, to craft our own vision, and

to go all the way to achieve it.

2. BREAK THE RULES

Arnold suggests to break the rules sometimes, but not the law.

Ask yourself this, in the place that you have been brought up, are there some unspoken

rules or beliefs that are deep-set in your mind that you feel that have held you back?

Arnold once said that during his time, actors with accents could never be the leading actor.

If Arnold chose to accept such a folk tale or belief, then he would have done absolutely

nothing to change. The good thing is that he didn’t want the beliefs of others to become his.

So, what he did was took numerous lessons that focused on changing his accent and

improving his English. He worked hard, and he became a leading actor. The rest is history.

Page 33: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

©DRTransformation.com | 33

3. DON’T BE AFRAID TO FAIL

Arnold has said that you have to be willing to accept failure at times because you can’t

always win. Even if you know this, don’t be afraid to take a step forward. You must choose

to believe in yourself and keep working on it, because it’s a matter of time for success to

come to you.

He further said that when you fail, you can always get up. Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba,

has also once said that “Failure is not so scary. Even if you fail, you will not die anyway”.

Be willing to take risks. So, what is true failure? True failure is someone who falls and never

gets back up. A true winner will always pick himself up, get their act together and keep

moving towards their goal.

4. IGNORE THE NAYSAYERS

Have you ever shared your dreams with someone else, and what you get are just some

negative remarks that this and that cannot be done?

Arnold has said that he loves it whenever people tell him that certain things cannot be done.

The more people tell him that it cannot be done, the more he wants to prove a point that it

can be done. That should be the spirit!

Arnold said that if he had chosen to listen to the naysayers, he would still be in Austria.

When he ran for Governor of California, people said, "No, you can't!”

Arnold’s response? “I said to these people to hell with all that. I went ahead to run for the

governor, and I became the governor.”

5. WORK YOUR BUTT OFF

As the heading implies, no pain no gain. If you want something, always be willing to pay the

price of success. If you want to make US $20,000/month, you’ve got to be willing to hustle

and work hard to make that amount.

6. GIVE SOMETHING BACK

You may realize that for the first 5 rules, it’s all about the rules for you to achieve something

big, something that you have always wanted. If some time down the road, and you have

become something bigger than what you thought you could do, then what next?

Page 34: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

©DRTransformation.com | 34

Arnold’s last rule is all about giving back. The greatest joy that you can ever get is to give

and help someone. The satisfaction and the fulfillment that you get simply cannot be

described using words. Whatever path you have taken to achieve the success that you have,

you have taken from someone or something. Now it’s time to give back.

Empowering Beliefs vs Limiting Beliefs

What is a belief? It is a feeling of certainty about what something means. It is the thoughts

in our head that influence our behavior, attitude and actions. Our belief is like the lenses we

use to view the world. If the lenses are blue, the world looks blue to us. If the lenses are red,

the world looks red to us.

Because we only do what we believe in, our belief determines our actions or inactions. They

affect feelings, and feelings affect behavior, which in turn produces results (or the lack of

them). Beliefs that affect our life are either empowering or self-limiting. It may or may not

be reality, but to the believer, it is very real and very true.

If you recall the NLP Communication Model, most of our internal representations (beliefs)

are formed after the F2 Transformation process. This means the information which forms

our beliefs will naturally get deleted, distorted and generalized based on past experiences,

etc. Knowing this, many of our beliefs might not be very accurate.

If a belief is empowering, it is worth keeping, regardless of how accurate it is. Believing that,

“I always dream big, and I strive for that which is out of my reach, the impossible is worth

striving for,” will bring you far in life. Believing that, “All failures are just feedback that I can

learn from and do better the next time round”, will reveal hidden opportunities, and help

you learn to practice flexibility to achieve your goals. People who are successful have a

certain set of empowering beliefs which helped them throughout their lives.

A self-limiting belief is the direct opposite of empowering beliefs. It places limitations on

your abilities. It constrains us in one way or the other. They may be conscious or

unconscious, founded or unfounded. Examples of self-limiting beliefs are, ‘I am fat so no one

will marry me’, and ‘I am not lucky, I won’t get the job’. Just by believing these self-defeating

thoughts, we do not think, do, or say the things that they inhibit. By holding on to these

beliefs, we impoverish our lives.

If self-limiting beliefs are so damaging to us, how do they form in the first place, and why do

we hold on to them? More importantly, how can we get rid of them?

Page 35: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

Self-limiting beliefs can be formed at any age and usually last almost a lifetime. I have many

NLP participants sharing with me their limiting beliefs and many were formed when they

were 3 – 5 years old. These participants are full grown adults, with some over 50 years old.

Imagine living with limiting beliefs for a good forty years of your life! Imagine what might

have happened if these beliefs were removed at a much earlier age. Would their lives be

very different now? Will they be much happier and achieve more dreams? There are many

causes for self-limiting beliefs. The most common are experiences, education, fear, and false

impressions/logic.

Experiences – These usually happen when we are young and inexperienced. When a

direct negative event occurs, our brain will quickly draw a conclusion (F2 Transform),

without much positive past experience added into the equation. This will result with a

negative internal representation and a new self-limiting belief.

Education – When forming perceptions of the world, experience is usually not the only

factor, even though it can play a large role. We tend to listen to the experts (parents,

teachers, books, etc.) about how the world works and how to behave. Another big, but

usually damaging influence, is our peers. Have you had the experience of sharing your ideas

and dreams to your friends or colleagues and they react by putting you down? All these

negative influences will affect an individual and create a self-limiting belief.

Fear – Self-limiting beliefs are usually fear driven. The fear of the unknown, the fear of

being ridiculed, the fear of harm and the fear of failure are all self-limiting beliefs. Many

people have big dreams and goals. The main reason why most of them fail to achieve these

dreams is because they did not even start or take the first step because of their fear of

failure. The easiest conclusion to them is self-directed belief, “This is impossible for

someone like me”.

False Impressions/Logic – We usually make quick calculations and estimations for our

'return on investment' based on time, effort and money. It is very easy to come to the

conclusion that this dream has a low chance of success and high chance of failure. The

return may even be negative as we are harmed in some way. Many people make errors in

their decision as they take little data and generalize it to everything. We go on hunches that

are based more on subconscious fears and hope, rather than reality.

The removal of self-limiting beliefs is one of the greatest tools of NLP. The impact it creates

in one’s life is priceless. The greatest return I get in teaching NLP to my students is during

this process. There will be tears at first followed by smiles of relief.

Over the many years of training, I have been blessed to have touched thousands of lives. All

over the world, NLP has helped millions of people from different walks of life. Many of my

students have also become trainers themselves. If you find yourself being limited by a belief,

if you are being held back from achieving your dreams, I strongly encourage you to start and

make a change.

Malala was fluent in Pashto, English, Urdu and aspired to be a doctor. However, her father

later encouraged her to become a politician instead. He refers to her as someone entirely

special and would talk about politics with her late into the night.

However, her life changed when Taliban took over her hometown and began to ban

television, music, girls’ education and women from shopping. Bodies of beheaded

policemen were seen hanging in the town square. There was a lot of violence and fear in

Swat Valley.

Aamer Ahmed Khan and his colleagues at the BBC had an idea of covering the Taliban’s

growing presence in Swat. As such, they wanted to find someone who could write

anonymously about the situation under the rule of Taliban. But who would dare to put their

life at stake just to write?

Mirza Waheed, the former editor of BBC Urdu, wanted to cover stories of how the ordinary

folks live under the ruling of the Taliban. Ziauddin Yousafzai suggested his own daughter

cover the story.

On January 3, 2009, Malala posted her first entry. She would write the notes by hand, and

then pass them to a designated reporter. This reporter would then scan the hand-written

notes and email them to BBC.

She shared her bad dreams about military helicopters flying in the sky and the Taliban. She

also shared that she was scared to go to school, because the Taliban had ordered no girls

allowed to attend schools after January 15, 2009.

The Taliban then began blowing up hundreds of girls’ schools. Times were hard with the

under their rule, streets were deserted, shops were closed, and there was a constant eerie

silence throughout what was once a bustling town. Everywhere, houses were robbed and

valuables stolen. Malala continued blogging for the next two months despite the dangers

present.

In May 2009, Pakistan’s military forces moved in to the region to fight the Taliban. The

entire town was evacuated and Malala’s family was separated and displaced. She was sent

to the countryside to live with relatives. As her father protested and lobbied for support, he

also received death threats from the Taliban. But Malala was deeply inspired by her father.

That was the first time she committed to be a politician instead of a doctor. It was only until

late July that year that the government declared Swat Valley was safe and her family was

reunited. The military had pushed the Taliban out of the city and into the countryside.

Malala’s blogging identity was revealed in December 2009, and she began lobbying for what

she believed in. She appeared in television interviews and spoke about how girls should also

have the right to go to school. That’s when she was also awarded the Pakistan’s first

National Youth Peace Prize. That further exposed her, making her life even more dangerous.

She received multiple death threats, which were published in newspapers, slipped under

her home door, and even on social media. When the threats didn’t stop Malala from fighting

for the rights of girls to have an education, Taliban leaders held a meeting and unanimously

agreed to kill her.

On October 9, 2012, a Taliban gunman shot Malala as she was heading home after

completing an exam in Swat Valley. The bullet went through her head and neck, which left

her in a critical condition. As her brain swelled, one segment of her skull had to be removed.

She was eventually flown to Birmingham, England, for further medical care.

The shooting received worldwide media coverage and produced an outpouring of sympathy

and anger. People around the world condemned the assassination attempt, with protests

were held in several cities around Pakistan. Pakistani officials also offered a ten-million-

rupee reward for information leading to the capture of the attackers.

Thankfully, Malala recovered from her injuries. Despite being shot and the constant Taliban

threats, Malala remains a staunch advocate for the power of education. She has spoken on

multiple occasions, including at the United Nations Assembly.

On July 12, 2015, Malala’s birthday, she was honored by the naming of Malala Day. She also

started The Malala Fund, to start a school for Syrian refugee girls (ages of 14 to 18) in

Lebanon.

Malala was announced as the co-recipient of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize on October 10,

2014. She was only 17.

Malala found her calling at a very young age. She developed a passion to fight for what she

believed in. The values she upholds keep her going despite the constant danger she faces.

She has a big dream that all the children in the world will receive a proper education,

regardless of gender, religion, status or race. To date, she has contributed significantly to

the education of children around the world.

Not many people in this world will find their calling at such a young age. But it doesn’t

matter, as long as everything you do is in line with your own values. These values are taught

at a very young age via our parents, religion, environment and our experience. They are

what guide us in life. As long as you remain congruent with your values, you will find

happiness in whatever you do.

Warren Buffett is a man who treasures his reputation for integrity and once told his son, “It

takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that you’ll

do things differently.”

Always stick to your values and you won’t go wrong in life. You can lie to the world but

ultimately you can’t lie to yourself. If a person ventures in any unethical trades or practices,

there will not be peace within and all the money he has will not be able to buy him

happiness.

Big Dreams

I’ve shared with you the story about Nick Vujicic in the previous chapter. We know that he is

a man who dreams big and strives to achieve the “impossible”.

When the dream first began, when Nick wanted to be a speaker to touch peoples’ lives. It

seemed impossible at for someone like him. Questions were raised, “What are you going to

talk about? Who’s going to want to hear you speak? How are they going to know about

you? Are they going to pay you? Are you going alone? Who’s going with you?” Nick Vujicic

didn’t have the answers at the time, but he knew in his heart that it was his dream, his

purpose, and it was God’s plan for him.

Page 42: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

Consider for a while, is it possible for a single man with no arms and legs to achieve this

alone? In order to achieve this dream, Nick needed the help of others. The question is, why

would anyone want to help him? What could inspire others to step out and help another

person to achieve their dreams?

ACTIVITY 6 (5 MINS) (DISCOVERING VALUES)

If there are only three things that you want to achieve in your life, what would they be?

1. _________________________

2. _________________________

3. _________________________

With the three things in mind, what is so important about each of them that makes you

want to achieve it? List them down individually.

___________________________________________________________________________

Do you realize the moment you think about those things that are important to you, you feel

absolutely positive? The secret to excellence is:

1. Knowing what is important in your life.

2. Imagine how you will feel if you already achieved them.

3. Pursue those dreams with great tenacity and determination.

Those things that you find important in life are your values. Knowing what’s important in

life, belief it is possible to achieve those dreams, focus on the positives and work hard

without ever giving up, then you will achieve good things in life.

Every successful person has a formula for success. They may vary slightly between

individuals; however, the key points will always remain the same. The diagram above is the

Personal Success Formula that you can use to understand how the individual components

are linked, and use this knowledge to achieve your goals.

- Our Values and Beliefs are the forces within us that drive our dreams.

- Everyone has dreams. When you give them a deadline, you have a goal. Every goal

MUST have a deadline.

- If a goal is not worthwhile, we will not be motivated to see it through. Therefore,

your goals must be worthwhile to you.

- Begin strategizing to achieve your goals. A good way is to model after people who

have been there and done that. Once you have the strategy, begin making your plan

of action (with specific deadlines).

- Taking massive action is by far one of the most important steps. Your state (Emotion)

will affect you most during this stage. Remember to think positive and never lose

your state.

- There will be results when you take massive action. Our results are also influenced

by the people around us and how we communicate to them.

- Using our sensory acuity, we can decide if the results are a success, or use this

knowledge for feedback to try a different approach.

- Use flexibility in your approach. There are many ways to achieve a goal. Some might

work, while some will give you feedback. When that happens, try a different

strategy.

- Whenever we decide on a goal, we need to ensure that it is in line with our

circumstances. For example, if you are married with children, pursuing a goal which

requires you to travel overseas for long periods of time might not be the best option.

Note: Whenever you are setting a goal, it must be positively stated and S.M.A.R.T:

- Specific

- Measurable

- Achievable

- Relevant

- Timeline

Positively Stated

A goal must be positively stated. Avoid negative words such as don’t and not.

Example:

<Positively Stated> I want to be on time for work next month.

<Negatively Stated>I do not want to be late for work for next month.

Page 47: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

©DRTransformation.com | 47

S.M.A.R.T Goal

- Specific – A goal must be specific. The word “successful” is too generic while “passive

monthly income” would be more specific.

- Measurable – A goal must be measurable. (E.g. Earn more money vs Earn $10, 000)

- Achievable – Is it a feasible goal?

- Relevant – Is it worthwhile?

- Timeline – Deadline

S.M.A.R.T Goal: I want to create a passive monthly income of $10, 000 by January 1, 2018.

Non-S.M.A.R.T Goal: I want to be successful.

I’ve shared with you stories in the previous chapters about successful people and their

journey. Can you relate their stories to the different components of the Personal Success

Formula? What was the driving value or belief? What was the dream? What were their

strategies? How was their emotional state at that time? Were they able to influence others

to follow their dream? Did they succeed at first? If not, what did they do?

There is one more story that I would like to share with you. That story is about me. As you

may already know, I am an Entrepreneur, NLP Trainer and Life Coach. I have taught over

forty thousand people how to use NLP to impact their lives. I’ve also ventured into other

areas and have become one of the leading experts in my country in those fields. The reason

why I am writing this book is because I am passionate about empowering people to achieve

their full potential. It is one of the values I hold dear, and nothing brings me more joy than

to be able to positively impact another’s life.

It all started back in my university days when I read a book written by Anthony Robbins on

NLP. It was something new to me and I was skeptical at first. But thankfully, I decided to

explore it a little further and what I discovered changed my life.

You see, at the time I was an executive at a huge publicly listed transport company. I worked

hard and was fortunate to be under the wing of superiors who valued my effort. I knew that

not everyone had such privilege and office politics was a very real reality. Regardless, I did

well, and was promoted to Assistant Vice President of Bus Operations.

Page 48: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

©DRTransformation.com | 48

If you had been me back then, you too might have felt very satisfied with my then-current

situation. I had a very comfortable paycheck every month. My career was promising and had

very good prospects. I had a loving wife who went through thick and thin with me. It was a

very nice comfort zone and my story could have ended there. I simply had to continue

working hard for this company, grow old, and retire.

Something sparked within me when I was first introduced to NLP. I realized that life is short

and that I could be doing so much more than simply holding a regular desk job. I used to

dream of being my own boss. I wanted to touch peoples’ lives. I even had dreams of giving

away a million dollars to charity and going into space!

But somehow as we grow older, our dreams slowly fade away as we conform to a society

where everyone is critical of everything. Have you ever experienced having cold water

splashed on your ideas? Many of us have been laughed at or ridiculed for having big dreams.

But this time was different; I wasn’t going to let anyone else steal my dreams. NLP inspired

me to take charge of my life, and at the same time, showed me how to be my own boss and

touch other peoples’ lives at the same. If NLP can significantly impact my life, it can do the

same to yours.

I tendered my resignation and started my new business. With all my NLP certifications, I was

more than qualified to train others. My strategy to acquire students was to conduct a free

short talk and convince them to sign up with my NLP Program. I was so confident that I even

had a friend help me out with the logistics for these talks. At that time, my savings were

starting to run low, and he agreed to be paid only if there were signups, even offered to

drive me home after the talk.

The first group of potential participants came and I gave it my all during those few short

hours. I used every trick in the book. I wore my best attire, spoke confidently, did a live

demo, threw in activities for everyone and even provided finger food. At the end of the day,

everyone left and I had ZERO signups. Thankfully, my friend was supportive and didn’t hold

any grudges for not being paid that day. As a certified NLP trainer and practitioner, I too,

held my confidence. I knew it was my first attempt and things could be improved.

So, the second short talk came a couple of weeks later. I tweaked the contents and gave it

my best shot again! Finger-food, Live Demo, activities etc. At the end of the day, ZERO

signups again. My friend maintained his cool and gave me some encouraging words again.

Page 49: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

©DRTransformation.com | 49

This cycle repeated for another two times. By then, my friend couldn’t contain his

frustration. The ride home that night was filled with an awkward silence and I was also very

demoralized. When I got home, I thought about my situation and considered my options. In

the end, I chose to fight on! I tweaked my presentation again and organized the fifth round

of short talks. I gave it another hundred percent and… there were SEVEN signups that night.

I was bursting with joy and my friend congratulated me. I was also finally able to pay him!

That was my very first taste of success. The learning did not stop there and I continued to

improve myself and my courses. The challenges, too, didn’t stop in both my business and

personal life. I faced cancer twice and am thankful to be given another chance to live.

So far, I have achieved many of my goals, but there are three more though, which are

currently my priority. To watch my children grow; set up a foundation and give away $1

million when I'm 50; and travel to space. The journey to success is never easy, but it is also

not impossible.

These are some of my milestones that I wish to share the joy with you.

ACTIVITY 7 (2 MINS)

I would like to work with you on some areas of the Personal Success Formula.

Based on your values and beliefs, what are three dreams that you think you can achieve

within the next three months?

1. _____________________________________________________________________

2. _____________________________________________________________________

3. _____________________________________________________________________

Page 51: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

Among these three dreams, which one has the highest priority?

___________________________________________________________________________

Please rewrite your dream into a goal. (Remember to make a positively stated and S.M.A.R.T

goal)

___________________________________________________________________________

Worthwhile – What does it give you if you have achieved this dream? What does it cost you

if you don’t achieve it?

___________________________________________________________________________

___________________________________________________________________________

Ecology – How will your goal affect other areas in terms of gains or losses?

In this chapter, we will be working on your Life Plan. A Life Plan gives us a clear direction on

what we need to aim for in order to achieve our life-goals. It is flexible and can be changed

along the way as our priorities shift.

Knowing what you want is the first step. Planning how to get there will be the second. This is

what the Life Plan is all about. It is based on both our long-term and the short-term goals

that we need to accomplish to get where we need to be.

In this Life Plan, we will be focusing on 5 Key aspects of your life. We call this the Whole

Person Concept. You may wish to include a ‘Spiritual’ aspect to the Life Plan if you wish.

ACTIVITY 8 (LIFE PLAN)

In order to do this activity, you will need either a large piece of paper and a marker, or you

can use an excel table or spreadsheet.

STEP 1

Draw a table and divide it into five rows and seven columns. At the head of each column,

write down the following (from left to right):

*See table below for example

Year

Age

Career & Wealth

Personal Development

Family & Relationship

Physical & Health

Social & Cultural

Page 54: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

LIFE PLAN TABLE SAMPLE

STEP 2

Fill up the age column with your current age - replacing the X - and add the years stated. For

example, if you are 30 years old this year, the bottom row (x + 1) should be 31, (x + 5)

should be 35, (x + 10) should be 40 and (x + 20) should be 50.

STEP 3

Fill up the year column in correspondence to your age in the second column.

Year Age Career &

STEP 4

Now imagine many years down the road, if you are living your dreams, where life is just

perfect, and you can confidently say that you have really lived a fulfilling life, what will it be

like? What have you accomplished?

STEP 5 (Career & Wealth)

Think about your dream Career & Wealth. Twenty years from now, when you have achieved

all your goals, what will it be like? Please write down what you would have achieved by then

on the Career & Wealth segment next to the (X + 20).

STEP 6 (Career & Wealth)

Think about the steps you need to take in order to achieve your dream Career & Wealth.

What do you need to do/accomplish along the way to get there? Please fill up the rest of the

column under Career & Wealth in accordance to the year.

STEP 7 (Personal Development)

Twenty years from now, when you are living your dream life, who are the people you want

to hang out with? What courses would you need to attend? What are the books that you

would have read? What are the things you want to learn? Fill up the Personal Development

column in a similar fashion to Career & Wealth, starting from (X + 20) and followed by the

rest.

STEP 8 (Family & Relationship)

When you are having the perfect relationship with your spouse, what will life be like?

Describe the kind of relationship you have, and what are the special moments you will have

experienced together? What are the steps you need to take along the way in order to

achieve this perfect relationship?

At the same time, think about your immediate family and those who are important to you.

(Example: Children, Parents, Siblings, etc.) Describe the kind of relationship you have with

them and how you can achieve what you desire. Fill up the Family & Relationship column in

a similar fashion to the rest, starting at (X + 20) and following it with the remaining age

segment.

STEP 9 (Physical & Health)

What will your health be like years down the road?

How do you want it to be? What is your ideal weight,

figure, physical fitness, health condition, etc...? What

are the things you need to do to achieve that goal? Fill

up the Physical & Health column in a similar fashion to

the rest, starting from (X + 20) and following it up with

the remaining age segment.

STEP 10 (Social & Cultural)

a. What are the things that you will do for

fun/leisure? These are things that you love

doing for yourself and not other people. What

would it be? What are things you can do along

the way?

b. Do you remember Arnold Schwarzenegger’s

sixth rule of success? If you can give back to

society, what are the things that you will do?

Who are the people you can help? What are the

things you can do along the way?

Note: You can fill up as many goals as you’d like

in the Life Plan. It is also flexible and you can

change/adjust it anytime according to your

priorities. Remember, these are your life goals

and only you can make them happen.

Page 57: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

©DRTransformation.com | 57

Below is an example of a filled life plan. DO NOT copy it as it is just a sample and may differ

greatly from your own goals.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Congratulations on completing your Life Plan. Knowing what and how to achieve your goals

is always the first step. The next thing you will need to do is to take massive action. For each

(X + 1) goal that seems too huge to achieve, you can break it down further into a monthly,

weekly or daily one. No matter how big it is, it will always become possible when you break

it down into smaller parts.

Whenever you have a goal, you need to take Massive Action. Nothing is going to happen

unless you do so. But before any action can take place, you must ask yourself what is your

plan. This is where your Action Plan comes in.

Plan your steps to achieving your first goal. Do not spend too much time on this process as

you can always employ new ideas and strategies along the way.

You’ll need to step out of your comfort zone. A goal will never exist within it, because if it

was so, you would have already achieved it. Many will not dare step out of this zone due to

the fear of the unknown. They fear failure, they fear pain, they fear rejection, etc. The list of

possible fears goes on.

Page 58: ©DRTransformation.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/TheTranformationCode/dldl/... · Nick Vujicic is an Australian man who was born without any hands or legs. You have probably seen

©DRTransformation.com | 58

However, if one does not step out of this comfort zone, one will never improve. All these

fears are usually exaggerated in our minds, leading to many giving up before they even try.

That is the difference between the achievers and the mediocre. The achievers take action,

and step out of their comfort zone all the time. They are quick to make a decision, but slow

to change the decision. The mediocre, on the other hand, are slow to make a decision, and

quick to change it. They focus on all the reasons why they should not or cannot, when

instead, they should be focusing on all the reasons on why they should and can do it.

Never let anyone, including yourself, hold you back from achieving your dreams.

We all know that your goal will always be outside your comfort zone. Which diagram above

do you think shows a more accurate prediction of your success journey?

Did you notice that the journey is full of twist and turns, sometimes taking you in circles?

During your journey to success, you will inevitably face many setbacks and challenges. No

journey is smooth, no matter how well planned it is. The bigger the goal, the bigger the

challenges.

But the good news is, the more challenges there are, the harder is it for others (your

competitors) to keep up with you. You will also get to learn much more and broaden your

knowledge of your field. The person who overcomes the biggest challenge will be the most

successful. So, love challenges, it is what makes the journey worthwhile. Learn from your

mistakes and setbacks, but focus on your success, because success breeds success.

Conclusion

Thank you for purchasing this ebook. It has

been a pleasure sharing with you the many

stories that have inspired me personally, as well

as the fundamentals of success. The truth is,

only 40% of people who read this will actually

make a change in their lives, due to inaction.

Don’t be a part of the failure statistics. You

already know what it takes to be successful. You

have already completed your Life Plan and

listed down S.M.A.R.T Goals that are

achievable.

Start creating your Plan of Action, and begin

taking massive action immediately. I will

continue to provide you with more tools that

will benefit you greatly in your journey. But for

now, you need to start the ball rolling.

Take care, my friend, and I wish you much

success in your journey ahead.
