Worshipful Burke was delighted to re- ceive a visit at his home by MW Galloway and also Worshipful Myron Tisdel. Reading Lodge has most likely had other 75 Year awards presen- tations, but what made this historic, is that even though he will be celebrating his 105th birthday in January, he is not the Oldest Past Master in the State. Worshipful George was raised in Willows Lodge and was elected to Junior Warden; however before he could serve, his employer transferred him to Redding where he affiliated to Reading Lodge. Reading’s Senior Deacon was the broth- er-in-law to Russell Deforrest, PGM and he did not wish to move up to the Warden’s Chair so the Lodge elected George to start the line and he ultimately served as Master in 1951. His early employment history includes Union Ice Company and his own Men’s Clothing Store in Redding. From the Junior WardenBrethren; As your Junior Warden this will be my last message from the South. As most of you know, my station has several demands on it, not the least of which is planning for, and arranging all details of every type of Lodge refreshment; whether it be deserts for a degree, or coffee for a practice, or a full meal for any main event. I could not have performed these duties as well as others without the help of a few choice persons and I wish to thank them here. Some of the ideals I started this job with, I presented to our Master and he not only agreed with them but supported my every effort to put them into effect. These include but are not limited to:

If all has gone as scheduled, we have four new or re-cycled Worthy Matrons and Worthy Patrons for 2018. The theme for the year is “The Tree of Life” and we look forward to our leaders to unfold all the aspects of such a tree. Trin-ity Star began their new year on Saturday, November 4th. What a busy and exciting day. We started the day with a brief practice with our won-derful Deputy Grand Matron, Jean Haynes. We went into an initiation immediately following the practice. Our first time Conductress did a wonderful job, as did all the offi-cers. Although we had a few members under the weather, our friends from around the north state stepped up and did as wonderful jobs Lee Astorino, of Camellia Chapter in Eu-reka, was still getting accolades at the installation in Arcata the next day. We advanced into the Installation following a Kight luncheon. With Sisters and Brothers from four Districts what a wonderful afternoon it was. Districts One, Two and Four were well represented and a member from the Sac-ramento Area also participated in both the Initiation and Installation. Thank you Cathy Solem for driving so far for our wonderful day. Our numbers are growing, and we have eleven of the eighteen officers ready to step in and now with a new member that number may increase. We had our last meeting of 2017 on November 16th with the new officers. We now go dark for December and January. (Unless we need to hold a special meeting for ad-ditional business that needs to be accomplished.) Our first meeting February 1st. Theme: Renewal. We will also meet on February 15 for our Valentine meeting. Wear Red or Pink and partake of the Hobo Stew at 6p.m. Remember that the AMI (All Member Instructional) will be held in Red Bluff this year It will be at the Redd Bluff Masonic Temple. It is scheduled for 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM. RSVP is requested. So, contact Thelma Pedro by Dec. 5, at 530-242-9094 or [email protected], to let the party plan-ners know that you will be attending. They are planning a continental breakfast, soup and salad lunch, with left overs for those travel-ing afterward. (P.S. If you are a new As-sociate Conductress, I have heard that the Peacock mascots may be flocking at the Lodge.) In closing, please remember the obligation we all took at the Altar, and

the Golden Rule “Do Unto Others as You Would They Would do Unto You.” Work for the good of the Order. We are all Sisters and Brothers of this Order, and in working together we strengthen and uphold its principles of the Order.

Happy Holidays from Northern Lights #14 We will be kicking off the holiday season with our meeting on December 1st. Wear your favorite “ugly” Christmas sweater and your fun slippers to participate in our contests. You never know what you might win. After the meeting we will have our Christmas party with our fun gift exchange that involves “stealing” from one another. Gifts should have a value around $5.00. We will also be having our first meeting practice on Decem-ber 1st at 5:30. Our Deputy will be present and I hope that all my officers will be there as well. If you can’t make it please let me know at 241-7065. There will be no dinner before our practice/meeting as previously reported. Our Chapter is hosting the All Members Instructional put on by the Grand Officers on Sunday, December 10th at the Red Bluff Masonic Temple. It will be from 8:30 to 4:00. This is a great way to meet the grand officers and to see how our work should be done. As lunch and refreshments will be served it is important that you RSVP to our secretary at [email protected] or at 530 242-9094. There is a cost of $10.00. I want to take this opportunity to thank all who attended our installation of officers on November 3rd. In the week leading up to and on the day of the installation I was blessed by the kindness of my Sisters and Brothers. When I needed help so many of you came forward and made it possible for us to have a great eve-ning. This is what Eastern Star is all about. Thanks to the many members who have called me to check up on our Sister Dina Wideman who had a heart attack on the day of installation. As I write this Sister Dina is recovering from a 3-way heart bypass and has been transferred to a facility for rehabilitation. She is doing well and we look forward to the day when she will be back with us. Happy Birthday to all of our December babies and a Happy Anniversary to all who were married in December.

the award to a Past Grand Master of the State and both of whom are members of the same lodge. Making this even more noteworthy was that included in the attendance of the audience were five Past Grand Masters of California. Reading Lodge has no documentation that six Past Grand Masters and one presiding Grand Master have ever been in our Lodge room at one time. Most Worshipful Howard’s long Masonic and Civic career would fill this magazine from cover to cover. He was raised in 1967 in Chico Lodge, affiliated to Reading Lodge in 1969, and served as Master of his Lodge in 1976. He sub-sequently served as Grand Pursuivant of the Grand Lodge, then Inspector and was elected to the Grand Line in 2000 and was Grand Master of the Grand Lodge in 2003-4. He has also served Reading Lodge as its Secretary for four years. Howard has also created history in the past. When he was nominated to be the Junior Grand Warden in 2000, he was escorted out of the Grand Lodge into a soundproof room while we voted for him. When he went out of the au-ditorium, his daughter Jennifer was in a Sacramento hospi-tal giving birth to his TRIPLET Grand-daughters Emily, Me-gan and Nicole. It would probably be a safe venture to say that he is the only Junior Grand Warden Nominee to ever leave the room with six Granddaughters and come back into the room with nine. What makes this somewhat his-toric is that the three of them along with their cousins were in attendance on MW Howard’s special day oi Nov. 19th. It is with gratitude and pleasure that the Officers and Members of Reading Lodge congratulate these two Brothers on their longevity and thank them for their con-tinuing membership and for their service to our craft.

Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, stuffing, green beans with bacon bits, green salad, fresh rolls, pumpkin pie and cranberry/ap-ple pie. Your efforts were very much appreciated. Wor. Jon Wideman will prepare his annual prime rib Christmas Din-ner prior to the December Stated meeting. I will send out

a reminder mid-December as it will be necessary to make a reservation for the dinner so that the correct amount of food can be prepared for the dinner. Cost will be $15.00 per plate. If you want to chance coming without a reserva-tion, cost will be $20.00 per plate at the door if any food is available. Continued discussion concerning possible consolida-tion and/or other options were held during the business meeting. No action was taken pending our committee members meeting with MW John Cooper, PGM on the weekend of November 19, 2017 for his input and guidance in this matter. Election of officers for the 2018 Masonic Year were held during the November Stated Meeting. WM elect, Steve Hanover, SW elect, Chris Erikson, JW elect, Jon Wideman, Treasurer elect, Bill Fischer, and Secretary elect, Michael Millard. There are plenty of open chairs at this time, so per-haps it’s time to get active in your lodge. Installation will be held during a Stated Meeting. TBD.

Fort Crook #250Fall River Mills, California

Hello again from the East in far Eastern Shasta County. This being the December Trestleboard article, it will be the last for me as Master of Fort Crook 250. This past year has flown by and the support of the Officers and members of this Lodge has been phenomenal. I wish to take this oppor-tunity to personally thank all of you, it has been an honor and privilege to have served as your Master for the past year. At our November Stated Meeting we elected a new Of-ficers Line as follows: Master Mark Stalcup, Senior Warden Jim Crockey t (soon to be PM), Treasurer Charles Thoma-son, Secretary Robert (Bob) Boyce. The appointed Officers TBA. Our Installation of Officers will be held on Saturday, December 2nd at 1:00pm in the Lodge with a dinner to fol-low. I will be sending out an email to members for a RSVP so that the kitchen crew will know how many to prepare for. This notice in the trestleboard will have to do for those without an email. Please RSVP to me or Master Elect Mark asap. This Lodge has 2 members who have been helped by the Masonic Outreach program and I read an email from one of them, Brother Herb Leue’ who lives in Maryland. With his permission I have included a portion of his email:Hello Brother Crockett:Way back in the windmill of my mind I recall you asking: “Why Maryland?”, or some such question. So today I thought I’d pay a friendly visit with you just for old time sake. As you may know, I came to Davis Creek (North of Alturas) from Los Angeles in 1975 and subsequently joined the Masonic frater-nity. Finally, I sold my Davis Creek place in 2002 and moved in with my daughter who lives in Maryland and am a plural member of Thomas J. Shryock Lodge #233. Because I moved to Maryland before the Alturas Lodge consolidated with Ft. Crook I did not become acquainted with you Ft. Crook brethren. However, I really appreciate your friendship via the Trestleboard, dues notices, etc. I was accepted at the Masonic Home at Co-vina, California but since it is too dis-tant from my care giver daughter, the Masonic Outreach Service is assisting me with the cost of residing at this Atria Manresa retirement home at 85 Manresa Rd, Annapolis, Md 21409 which is nearby the US Naval Acad-emy. I moved in here six months ago. The only way I can describe this expe-rience is to compare it to the Shrine’s Children’s Hospitals. Because of the California Masonic Grand Lodge Out-reach Service, I am enjoying a secure and happy life during my declining years. Thank you and the Ft. Crook

brethren for supporting the Masonic Homes as I did during my active years. Attached is a Power Point slide show of this place which speaks for itself. The other two are Father’s Day 2016.Fraternally,Herbert Leue’ The reason I am including this in this article is that I feel very strongly about the MOS and the great work that they do and I ask each brother to think about Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth when sending in your annual dues and if you can, please be generous donors to our relief programs, they do indeed work. We were blessed with a visit from our Inspector, Wor-shipful Scott Tripp who made the journey from Susanville. We welcomed him by putting him to work as our Marshal for the evening. Way to go Worshipful Scott. He said he would fill in at any Station except the Secretary!!! Three Bruce Galloway’s installation in San Francisco. We rode the bus that was chartered by Reading 254 and had a great time. Worshipful Ed Bosworth Jr. PM, myself and Brother Walt Libal attended. Worshipful Ed said this was his first trip into San Francisco and would be his last un-less he could ride a bus again. Wow the traffic and strange folks walking around. That is all for now, again thank you Officers and Mem-bers of Fort Crook #250 for a great year.

Christmas-greetings and Good New Year’s tidings to the newly installed officers of 2018. Here’s hoping that all of our Brothers and Sisters have a prosperous and produc-tive 2018. From all the Secretaries:

PLEASEPay Your 2018

Dues!

1. No Buffet Lines. The only good place for a buffet is at a picnic, or in Las Vegas. I believe when charging for a nice dinner we should expect to be served. At every dinner this year be it Hiram, Stated, Award, Past Masters, etc., we have been served. Once by the Officers, and four times by Eastern Star members, and the balance by Rainbow Girls. These organizations have made our meals that much more enjoyable and they have benefited from their tips as a fund raiser as well. Thank you Officers, Ladies and Girls!2. Give them a good meal for their money. We have had New York Steaks, Ham, Fried Chicken, Corn Beef & Cab-bage, Rib Eye Steaks, Beef Stew (to die for), Barrel Chick-en, Swiss Steak, BBQ Tri-tip, pork loin, and a few others I can’t remember.3. Spread the Officers around the dining room, so that all Brethren can enjoy sitting with them at the Stated Meals and so that each table has a “host” . If we are to continue to brag that we are the “Friendliest Lodge in the State”, what better policy than to let a sojourner take a seat with his lady at the Master’s table?4. Encourage reservations so that the Junior Warden doesn’t spend more of the Lodge’s funds by preparing too much food. For those that don’t take the time to re-serve a meal, charge a higher price at the door. Many of our concordant bodies around the state do this and it has helped diminish food waste. We have saved a considerable amount of money this year despite the restaurant quality cuisine and my final report will be issued at our final Stated Meeting this month.I want to thank Uriah for supporting me on these issues and his intent to continue their practice in my successor’s year. As a boss, I could not have asked for a more agreeable one and I think Aaron will agree in twelve months. My second thanks go to the Brother who helped me pull together five (or was it six) of my meals and gave me input for others even when I had the chef’s apron on. Thank you Worshipful Randy Plummer! Your friendship and encour-agement have meant a lot to me. I think my successor will be in touch with you. Lastly to our Senior Steward. He has made himself avail-able at almost every meal for food preparation, table set-up, table decorating, and meal dish-up and of course clean-up after the stated meeting. We all know that the Stewards are supposed to do this, but since we have not had a full contingent of Stewards over the past few years, these du-ties have been somewhat forgotten. When I approached Brother Mike Gersonde with the “job description” in early 2017, he stepped up to the plate and has been there at al-most all of the meals. Thank you Mike. As most of you know, I am not continuing to the West next year, but I look forward to serving as YOUR Secretary and I only hope that I will be able to fill the large shoes left by Most Worshipful Howard.

Fraternally,Mike Sanders, PM Junior Warden

Greetings Nobles, As 2017 winds down our club has started planning for the New Year. Being such a small club elections are a fairly simple affair. So with that we will have the same officers for 2018 that we had for 2017 and also 2016. Don Smith will remain as President; Ed Bosworth Jr, Vice President; Cecil Ray, Treasurer; Charles Thomason, Secretary. Now that our officers have more or less figured out what they are do-ing, we wish them well and continued success. Our end of the year dinner has been set for December 10th, 4 pm, at the Fall River Hotel. Please RSVP to Presi-dent Don Smith @ 530-336-6559 to let him know if you plan to attend. Also at our November meeting tentative dates for 2018 were set for our not-so-World-Famous Gin Fizz Breakfasts. Currently the dates are set for Sunday March 4th, April 8th, Mother’s Day May 13th and May 27th. Hopefully those dates will stand, but keep an eye on the Trestleboard for any changes should they become necessary. From Northeast California, all of us in the Intermoun-tain-Modoc Shrine Club wish all of you a very joyous holi-day season and a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. If travel is in your holiday plans, be safe and we will see you back here next year!
